Don Can taloupi worked up to th ird and was pressuring Toyama but was never able to get by. Overall Turner picked up the big money for the night with his 3-1 score with Don Cantaloupi putting in one of his better rides to net him second overall Third went to Greg Toyama on his FMF Honda. Dan Turner was third going in to tum one behind Phil Crane (Suz] and Val Tamietti (Mail in the 250 Pro race but it d idn't take ' Turner long to get to the 'fr o n t where he stayed all the way to the flag. Crane held up to the pressure of Tamietti's TNT Maico and Iinished s e cond. Rou nd t wo w a s the show-stopper. , 30 Classen masters Norcal MX riding a borrowed Yamaha puUing the start only to lose it in the following tum. Dick Wilson on a new CZ from Champion Cycle in Oakland was there to take over the lead. Van Tamietti pulled the holeshot like he inven ted it in moto two. Tarnietti was way out in fr o n t, his lead looked really strong. But Tamietti's lu ck was lac king to nigh t, as he was going into a h airpin tum he stalled his motor th er e and fouled a plug. · Tamietti quickly swi tch ed over to his spare but it was too late. Dave Carlson (FMF-Suz) who got a fourth in the first moto was there to cash in on Tamietti's misfortune and moved in to the first place spot. Tamietti got going again still in the second place sp ot. Back further Brian Jodry (Suz) and Dan Turner were having it out for third place spot. Kipp Classen was also nudging Turner's rear fender looking for a mistake. The racing was the tightest it's ever been at Fremont and the gian t crowd of spectators was lovin g every minute of it. Carlson was first at the flag even though Tamietti had been pushing his tail hard for the last few laps of th e moto. J odry got third ahead of Turner. Overall Carlson w as the winner with his 4, 1 score with Val Tamietti taking second and Dan Turner claiming third place money on his Yamaha. • Results in Results Section. By Steve Castillo FREMONT, CAL., SEPT. 9 Kent Classen showed some strong talent tonight as he dominated an action packed 500 Pro event. The act ion began with Rory Rundle Coming up strong and fast behind Wilson was Kent Classen on his new KTM 400 . Kent stayed with Wilson as he moved away from the rest of the field. On the last lap Classen started to dive hard on Wilson. But Wilson is a hard rider to get around; using up all available space on the track. Classen was close at t he flag but Wilson got t h e nod. Moto tw o was a different story. Kent Classen turned the tables this round an d led the race all the way to the flag where he picked up the overall win with his 2, 1 score. Richard Wilson finished a respectable second with Glenn Stiefel (Suz) taking third. Don Cantaloupi (Yam) pulled out front in moto one of the 125 Pros. Not far behind Don was Kent Classen (Hon) and Phil Crane (Suz). These two riders were pushing Don as hard as he would wa nt. But Don is also a talented rider as he went to work opening up a lead for himself. Cantaloupi had opened up about a seven second lead when going into a tight hairpin tum he gassed it a little too hard coming out and ended up on his leathers. Don frantically got up and started to kick his bike back to life . As 'Don kicked, Crane and Classen were having it out for the second spot with Neal Snarr pushing both riders in the fourth place position. As they came upon the fallen Cantaloupi Classen took over the lead. Fo r ab out two laps Crane p ushed Classen hard for the lead. When they hit the main straightaway Crane held a: slight advantage over Classen and cut in just going into the tum. Crane now had the lead with Classen battling to"hold off Snarr an d Don Cantaloupi. It was super tight at the flag with Crane getting the . win with Snarr and Cantaloupi dueling for second with Snarr getting the second place spot. Classen had fallen back to fourth at the finish, Kent Classen was back for revenge in moto two as he jumped out to the lead, following was Neal ' Snarr and Don Cantaloupi. Phil Crane suffered a loss chain and that ended his hopes for any money tonight. Classen went on to take the win and second overall. Neal Snarr got the overall with his consistent second place finishes, Third went to Don Cantaloupi. • . Results in Results Section. The Intermediates and Experts ran a really fast race In the Intermediate Doug Lawrence ended first p lace The Experts were by Hartunian led With Raush and Holland racing head and head They sped around at a terrific pace Finished Raush in second and Hollans third place The 250 Expert was won by Mike Cook Griswald was second, just by a look The three wh eelers took over, about 20 strong The riding exciti';tg, th e race very long J . Strout and Bill Lauer were su re looking fine John Harsberger got third in the start Then his bike act ed up and near f ell apart FREMONT, CAL., SEPT. 1 Don Bailey has set a win streak and record breaking number of main event wins that may take awhile to break, especially since the season isn 't over for ' another five weeks. Bailey has now won 22 main events and seven of Wednesday nights were double mains winning both the 250 and 360 Expert events. All this and he leads both Fremont high point and D·36 top 20 white plate. All in all, a very spectacular year, so far. In the 250 Rodger Slack waved his Boss framed teammate by, down the back straight and in the 360 Bailey whistled on by Rick Delacy on the Team Cancilla Yamaha before mid-race for that win and y et another two point cushion over two time champ Delacy.
