Carlson, an Expert in D-36 Scrambles, wa s a tired smiler at the gold medal line and a very proud deputy Sheriff fro m San Mateo County. . Open mota co mp et ition seemed to be a give away wh en it wa s announced that Gene Cannady was in town to represent LAPD. In the first m ota he lapped all but the second a nd third place riders. His luck ran out on the first lap of m ota two though, when the triple forks on his trick Honda gave up the cause in a an 80 mph area and the Baja ac e suffered a very painful co mp o und fracture of the wrist. Alan Kent came back front running fo r mota two and combined that win with two seco nds for the overa ll over Paul Eat on an d J im Richardson. Loa king over the riders and the fact that many wer e from areas like FBI, CH P and DA' s offices just makes you wonder if this sport may just make it in the big bad world of everyone against the motorcyclists.
