Ridgerunners series f inale By Gerry Reagan WATSONVILLE, CAL ; AU G. 29 Th e Rid gerunner l\-IC and co·s ponsor Brinks T rophy Shop of Santa Cru z wr apped up - their $ 120 0 five-race mot ocross series with some great racing in just about every moto. : The starting area had been changed, doing away with the famous 130 yard downhill, heading the racers into a sweeping left hander and then into a sharp, off camber right turn near the o ld oak . tree. It provided some tricky manuvering as the riders slid through the left hander lik e flat trackers and then set up for the sharp right. That isn't too' hard to do unless yo u try it with ' twenty other guys at the same time. Pat Richter (KTM) from Fortuna, Cal ifornia, took home first for the series, $6 70 of the $120 0 prize money. Anot her 5 73 0 came from h is w innings a t the five races of the ser ies. Rich ter, -by, t he way, missed th e firs t race of the series and had the t op spot sew ed up at the end of the fourth event. Pat clearly .sho wed his d omination durin g th e day's racing as he. broke from the pack in the first moto of the Open Experts to build up a big lead by the end of the first lap. Charlie Halcomb (Hu s) moved into second on lap four and by then Richter was becoming weary of riding all alo ne so he slowed to wait for Halcomb. He played with Charlie fo r awhile and then began to move aw~y again. In moto two it was again Richter out in front but this time Steve Scoffone (CZ) tried ' to take ' the lead away. Scoffone lost it in the back section and pulled off the track to wait for Richter to come around aga in. When Richter went by Scoffone took after him and Pat again had someone to play ra ce with. Meanwhile Halcomb, who was now in second, began to gain on Richter. Scoffone let Charlie get by rather than ~eopardize Charlie's second.
