out to an early lead; but not far behind was Jerry Edie (Yam) with Randy Kerslake (Suz) right on his tail. Lupo really had his hands full trying to hold off J erry Edie; meantime Kerslake and Pete Bierwith (Mai ) had moved up to challenge Edie for his second. Talk about tight, th ese fou r riders had everybody who wa s watching slack jawed in amazement! Lupo held on till the end of the race Edie took second, Bierwith worked by Ker slake to take third . Next mota Kerslake came b ack with a vengance to make up for his fourth in the first mota. Kerslake took the win and the overall with second going to Jerry Edie, 2-3 score. John Lupo had . some bad luck and was only able to pick up a fifth which still gave him third o verall. Back in second round 50 0 Pro action it was Magoo's race once again. Wes Elrod had little trouble in picking up his second p lace which gave h im second overall. Duffy Co llin fro m Fremont Yamaha put the automatic Husky in for a fine third. Bill Johnson once again pulled the pl ug on th e rest of the 250 Pros in the second m o ta with Snarr and Cr~ right on his tail. Speedway Central HANFO RD , CAL., J ULY 30 Many of Hanford's regular riders were guests at other race tracks this week, so the fans were treated to some new faces . Jeff Peltier of Lebec, took his Handicap heat co nvincingly as di d an other first year charger, Dan ny Fle tcher in the second heat. The final heat was wo n b y recent challenger graduate Scott Stone. In Scratch racing, it was a mixed bag with the final transfers going to Pelt ier and Mark Tracy of the new rider ran ks, pl us regulars Jack Martin and Grant Salyers. The Handicap Main had generated terrific pressure. The fr an t row was made up of t he nigh t's new hot dogs: Peltier, T ra cy an d Donny Faulkne r. Lurking in the distance were Salyers, Martin an d Ron lIardin. Tw o false starts gave the crowd an indication o f the ten sio n on the track and when the gate went up the fearsome threesome on th e ten y ar d line took off like big birds. Peltier finally shook loose and by now Hardin and Salyers moved in fo r the kill . Peltier was just going to o well, however, and he won it handily. TI,e Scratch Main figured to be a Salyers, Martin wa lk-away, since they fa ced Peltier and Tracy wh o were both in their very first Scratch Main. Not so ! The adr en aIin was flowing he avy and we witnessed a four rider holeshot, Martin had th e au tside, and just when h e began to make a move - h is engine fizzl ed. Pe ltier got a sligh t edge and hu ng on to th e pole like he was on a tether. Sal yer s got by a determined Mark Tracy and began working on Peltier. He couldn't intimidate Jeff, who turned in a p erfect ride and won by a bike length. • Results in Results Section. CYCLE NEWS PRODUCTS ~~:a: . . ::: Top QualitY underwear val ue ~, . " ." .
