Evan got off to a quick start, ju mping to a big lead a t the ou tset of the race, while Sim ons got off to a rather slow beginning. Then, Willy's "Charge of the Light Brigade" began. It took him half of the ten lap race to push in to the runner-up spot, but from then on, it was sheer excitement. Once they caugh t sigh t of each other, they both went for it, busting berms and screaming down the straigh ts, these two set a WFO pace for the next three laps. Then, over the big drop-off, Willy held onto the gas for a fraction of a second longer than Marcus , sending him in to the hai rpin tum at a radical angle. Evan neatly tucked himse lf into the inside of the tum, but Sim on s just had too m uch m om entum going. Beginn ers and Novices were classed toge ther - 24 and jim Snow took the first Novice trophy, along with a new Amateur ranking. Curtis was the first Beginner, leaving Chris White and jeff Olive to second and third. Older brother Chris Can n o n was also a winner in the Mini Expert race. Benjie Meyer rode a terrific race the second go arou nd, and came close to winning, bu t the checkere d was out before Benj ie cou ld make his m ove. The 125 Begin ner race started ou t ra ther ragge d. Scott Sh erw o od had a huge le ad, bu t unfortunately th e race was stopped du e to a clas hi ng of bikes on th e sweeper. The race was restarted and Sh erw ood again shot out fro n t to ta ke an easy win ._ The only close com peti tio n in th e sec on d m o to was between Sc o t t Sh erwood and j eff Neeley. Racing nose to nose at th e finish, Sh erwo od shu t the door on Neeley and le ft him ou t in th e cold. Scott went o n to lead every lap of th e th ird mo to and along with the vic tory trophy, he was handed gradua tion papers to th e N ov ice class .
