he got the b ik e b ack to the pits. Ado lf had stayed with the bike as it car een ed off the circuit and the insid e of h is arms from above the gloves to the armpits were scratched and b leed ing . On the same lap Rog er pulled up to within three seconds of Gerrit and then some real racing began. From the twelfth to the seventeenth lap Gerrit stayed ahead of his teammte as the two of them started racing for the win. Side by side going off the jumps Gerrit was pulling only inches to keep the lead over the humps and out of the corners as the laps ticked off. Their furious pace had also taken them further ahead of third place Van Velthoven in those five laps from nine to twenty -seven seconds. Brad was now in fourth , six to eigh t seconds , behind Jaak and not able to gain on the KTM. Eastwood re tired on the next to last lap when an injured ankle' forced him out. On that same lap Roger finally made the move ' that put him ah ead, th e kind of move that spe lls World Champion. Roger used his timing and the Suzuki's speed to p ass Gemt in mid air going o ff a tri p le jump uphill. He launch ed off th e first one , cleared the second and landed o n the oth er side o f the th ird and kept th e Suzuki wid e open un til he had to br ake hard fo r th e tigh t right h ander. Wolsink nev er slacked off either and finished only t hre e seco nds beh ind at the flag . J aak finished third an d Brad nailed d own fourth fo r eigh t p o in ts. ' The seco nd race almost turned into a forty -minute plu s two round p ara d e b ut it was save d by so me fantastic riding by two -time Worl d Ch ampion Bengt Aberg and Suzu ki star Gerr it Wolsin k . Ro ger took the start with Noyce and Weil in second and third. Roger started with a two second lead o n th e second lap an d j ust kep t go ing quick er to i n c r e se h i s lea d to 24 s econds, un ch all enged , to th e checkere d flag. Wolsink was in about si xth p osition at th e first tum and when he came into th e first righ t-hander gave h is Suzuki to o much gas an d sp un ou t. Afte r getting ba ck on hi s b ike af te r th e step-off he was in 29th p lace at the end o f the firs t lap . With ou t letting off for the rest of the race he m oved th rou gh th e p ack like a shark through a scho ol of m innows , ste adily gaining on the leaders as h e p assed a half d ozen riders per lap in th e beginning stages of the race. By lap ni ne he ha d p ulled up on Korn eev of Ru ssia and overtook him on the th irteenth, seven seconds d own ' on Brad. Ge rri t edged by Brad four laps from th e finish on th e sixteenth and Brad said tha t h e still h ad the strength and desire b ut Gerrit's Suzu ki was pulling away from th e Husqvarna as Gerrit's b ike rolled on th e power an d gripped while Brad 's was spinning and sliding out of the corners. Aberg's attack was for a smaller number of places, it took hi m from sixth po sitio n on the fir st lap to a third place finish at the en d of the effort, but the style and spee d to get th ere left many slack-jawed and shaking their heads as the Bultaco p ilo t poured on the steam with his Lars Dan iel son tuned ree d-valved 370. Bengt pulled pas t Ake Jonsson on lap eight, Sch mitz on lap fourteen and the n final ly passed Adolf on lap seven teen wi th th ree laps to go to the flag. Sch mitz said afte r the race th at there was no way he co uld stay with Bengt as the Swede passed him an d p ulled away. It seeme d like Beng t h ad tires t ha t adhere d to the h ard b lue line while every one was ti p-toeing ar ound and shu tting off o n all th e co rn ers. Some times it 's j ust a case -of wh ose got th e ' na ds to keep it op en. Brad was p leased wi th h is overall fo ur th p lace. Bet ter to fini sh both races in the po in ts than fall off going for ano th er pl ace. After the U.S. and Can ad ian ro unds the G P riders will fly to En gland fo r th e _ Fourth of July lOth round of the 76 series .
