Last round Don wa s leading again, but overcooked it on tum. one as Allen and Zeh ner wen t by. After a cou ple m ore laps it was Allen , Tortorelli and Zehn er. Beeso n was back and movin g fast bu t To rt orelli took the win. The big boomers more or less form ed a procession in the first mo to of the 500 Ope n /Expert. Don ''T-Bone '' Gr igsby (Yam) led, Rex Hailey (Yam) was second and Steve Miller o n another Yammie third. The seco nd round was livened up when Jerry Peters ' Beezer caugh t fire on the sta r tin g line. It was saved fortunate ly wi tho ut too much dam age. Off they went again , T-Bone leading Hailey and the res t of th e p ack led by Miller. Last mo to Grig sby an d Miller real ly went at it while ch asin g Hailey, sliding inside and o utside of each o ther, clos e en ough to to uch. T-Bone 's winning st re ak ended whe n the b ike let go and Miller took seco nd with Mike Boyle (Su z) th ird. J uniors were herded home by Jim Redding (Ya m) in the first an d th ird motos bu t a DNF in th e second cost him the overall win .
