He pulled the same trick in the 250 Pro class, unconte sted, twice. process. Mike gassed his way to third behind Vidic and Rubly before he pulled off with bike trouble . Vidic easily scored the win when Rubly also suffered bike trouble with BilI settling for third behind Carlson (Mai). In the second five-lapper, Vidic again jumped to the lead holding off the rest of the field for another easy win . In the final round Carlson challenged Jeff late in the moto but couldn't cut it and left Vidic with a clean sweep win. Carlson finished second overall, Rubly third. . 500 Pro Val Tamietti, aboard the Track'n Travel Maico, had plenty of comletition with Rubly, Luke Messer Mai , Jim Lowe (Hon), Dan Barnes Suz , Ted Scruggs (Mai), Bob Elliott (Mai , and oh yes, that Bell kid was in the starting lineup also with the Long Beach Honda super-trick four-stroker. Rubly and Bell grabbed the top two spots however, Rubly got sideways with Bell trying to move underneath, resulting in both riders going down in front of the pack. Plenty of scrambling was going on, finally , everybody went around Bill and Mike and they too returned to action. There was an ensuing dog fight for the lead between Tamietti and Messer with Bell and Rubly moving into fourth and fifth respectively, challenging Barnes for third. Tamietti held off Messer for the win with Barnes holding on to third by a wheel over Bell. The second mota had Rubly, the '75 CMC champion, toppirig current point leader Tamietti and '74 ch amp Bell at the finish. The final round, Rubly let Messer move by in to the lead midway through the five-lapper, and that move cost Bill the over all win. Luke took the win with Rubly second and Bell and Tamietti following. Tamietti's fourth gave him seven points overall to Rubly's eight markers and the overall win. The 125 Pro class was back to the same routine with David "Bones" Taylor claiming all three motos and " King of the Hill" honors. In the special four-stroke class, Bell easily took the win over Chris Gray , aboard a 410 Honda, and David Serais, on a 500 Yamaha. • Results in Results Section. AMC attacks Saddleback By Danny Raymond ORANGE, CA., APRIL 11 Jeff Eierstedt p icked up a new Bultaco 370 and took it to an Open Pro win, edging out Maico mounted Steve Shipkey in the overall payline. Ivan Alexander (Mai) swept both 250 Pro mo tos with a 1-1 score. Steve's Cycle 's Mark Marriott had his hands full with Tim Murphy, Russ Eide and John Layne during the 100 Expert competition. I 22 As the Open Pros stormed into the first turn Mark Rodman (Kaw) was leading, followed by Steve Shipkey, Steve Man taque and Bill Emery. While the pack thinned out Rodman held onto his lead, only to have his bike go sour. Shipkey inherited the lead momen tar ily, as J eff Eierstedt came from near last to finally pass Shipkey for the moto win. Ship key opened the second mota by ju mping into an early lead over Craig Adams (KTM) and Bill Emery. After Eierstedt made his m ove thro ugh the pack he quickly passed Shipkey for the lead . Steve Montaque did likewise and pulled into second. Shipkey held onto his important third, Craig Adams fourth. Harry's Cycle's Tim Murphy looked quickest during the 100 Experts but a 100 Expe rt , Tim Murphy, in solitary confinement at AMC Saddleb ack. fall in the first mota , while leading, gav Mark Marriott the win overall. Murph went on to win the second moto bu was held back by his third in the f"ITS moto, • Results in Results Section. .J Carlson two timer at Carlsbad • By Mike Yada CARLSBAD, CAL., APRIL 11 Proving that he can handle a bi bike as well as a screamer, Dav Carlson went home the victor i both the 250 and 125 Pro classes Robert Zingg came out on top of th 500 Pro class with his big RM. Track and Travel's Val Tamiett (Mai) easily ran off with the first " 50 Pro mota win but took a big spill on th downhill in the second moto lettin Robert Zingg by to collec t top cash. Dave Carlson holeshot all four mota of the 250 and 125 Pro races, leadin each from start to finish , He had little ' the way of problems, with th exception of a broken handlebar earl •: in the second 125 mota. Randy Bums (Yam) rode a fast consistent race to finish runner-up i the 250 Pros. Steve Rhyan (C-A) ha problems early in both motos, gettin off to poor starts, but steadily made hi way into third spot, just ahead of DG' Mike Tripes (Yam). o z a ~ > et a: > Z Z et o Carlson jumped off his Maico an hopped aboard a Frank's Honda t roost the small turnout of 125s. Ton Wanket (FMF) was the only one to kee a comparable pace, as Alan Smit (FMF), Pete Wanket (Han), Denni Curtis (Han) and Jeff Tomlin (Han kept the spectators happy as they a fought for third spot.
