After a fir st 250 Pro moto win by J eff Vidic (Mai), Will Harp er (Mai) and Eddie Cole (Bu l) we re determined to demo te · him in the second. Both riders" tasks were made a little easier when Vidic's engine lunched a rod. Cole ll'"abbed the lead , followed by Turn er [Hon] and Rubly (Mai) and he stretched it out hoping Harper would do no better th an third. Harper was on the move after a poor start but when he got to second his progress stopped. Cole and Harper were tied with five points each, although Cole received the overall win based on se cond moto results. Over 40 125 Pros were divided up into two divisions with a final consisting of the top 10 overall riders from both motos co mb ined. As th e fin al 20 riders rolled to the line, spectators pushed to th e fence. Mar k Gambetta (Hon ), with th e inspiratio n of a $250 win, grabbed the holesho t followed by Turner (Hon), Williams ' (Hon), McDougal (Ho n ), and Glover . Gambetta held o u t unt il th e sixt h lap , th en he was passed by Turner an d three laps late r he was again p assed o n th e back flat-out san dwash by Glover. Mini rider Steve Karsten (Kaw) was always running up front, but the engine soured on each mo to , and q u i t altogether on the second. Chris Cannon (Yam ) won with three straight, David Dove (Yam) was second wi th Dan Wendt (Ya m) t hird. Only n ine 125s sh owed up , an d the Hondas of Jim Strain an d Danny Per kins emerged first and sec on d ove r the rest of the Yamaha field. First moto, Per kin s worked his way up th ro ugh th e pack to lead until Strain too k over. Seco nd mo to , Perkins was again in traffic while Strain was sm o kin ' 'em way out fro nt.
