B What started out as a decent day soon turned into a slip and slide contest. If the races got boring there was plenty of action watching vehicles try, m ostly in vain, to master the up-hill pit exit. What fun! Davy Carlson nabbed his second CMC/Saddleback 125 Pro victory in a row, scoring a perfect 1-1 aboard his Franks/Honda. Carlson and Pasadena Honda mounted Dave Taylor had . a hot dice going for the lead in moto one, with Taylor grabbing it, after Car lson got squirrely, only to get out of shape himself, leaving Carlson open for a good lead. The crash put Tay lor way off pace allowing FMF'er Randy Hess and DG Performance ace John Tessitore to up the positions by one. Hess an d Tessitore ha d been battling for third and n ow co ntinued o n for second spot. John zapped Randy near the end of the race fo r sec ond, while Carlson hu ng on to his co mfortable lead. . T ay lor rode the rainy second moto, taking the lead and was going strong ti ll his Hon da seized in the early lap s, forcing him to signal by the res t of the screamers. Hess was looking real good, holding Carlson at bay for firs t, while Tessitore picked his way up to the fr ont. Carlson la ter said, that as soon as he really started to pressure He ss, Randy fell apart an d started making mistakes. He was ' right as Hess missed his line, getting into the loose stuff, and Carlson was gone. , Keep your eyes on Hess and Tessitore. They're a couple of fast ones! Noo n . 55. 00 5 10 .00 By Mike Yada CA RLSBAD, CAL., MARCH 28 After a long string of bad luck Ted Weeks pu t it all together in the 125 Pro class while everyone else .had bad luck. Ran dy Burns ran away from the 250 Pros, while Don ald Martins collected the' 500 Pro cash. PK Racin g Products rider Dave Eropkin came around the first corner leading Tony Wan ke t (FM F), Charlie Bower (Hon), and J ohn Tessitore (Hon) . Tessitore soon broke into the lead, only to fall victim to ign ition trouble. Eropkin took ove r the lead again, but had to tangle with Wanket and Bower. long enough in Havin g lazed "re tirement", Charlie Bower decided to dust off the moth balls and return to the 125 war. Sporting his old Mettco jersey, Bower pressured the top runners until his new '76 engine quit on him. Wanket was the next to go, blowing his '76 crank also. That left Weeks in second behind Eropkin bu t he had to run on a poor spark, caused from a completely broken off spark plug. After "seeing Eropkin's front fender under my armpit in the first comer," Weeks decided to give it a go and led the [mal moto wire to wire. The FMF flyer pulled away from the PK competitor, as Eropkin tossed his chain soon afterward. Peter Wankel, the other half of the Wanket Bros. , swooped into second, but not soon enough to overtake Weeks . Randy Burns " burn ed " the 250 Pros, whining both motos by large leads. Mark White rode a smooth co nsisten t race behind the speed master to finish second. Meanwhile, David Morris (Kaw)" (Mai), Clark J on es Wes Sutton (Suz-DG), and Steve Rhyan (Can) kept close, finishing in the overall Morris, J ones and Su lion. The first mo t o was strange.' A lost 125 Junior rode head-on into the 250 Pro riders, as they carne " acro ss the first turn. No one was hurt except for a lot of pride . especially for the person going backwards. _ Results in Re sults Se ction Spec t ato rs ... .. per person . . ... 54 .00 12 years and over Grand stand Seats... 1st come 1st served Concess ionaire Permits $20 .00 CMC Sa nct ioned Entries ~i ll Be Limited CMC Cards Available atTrack Class " C" Tractio n Silencers & Muff le'rs' Requ ired .
