CA 94601. 415 532-3677 14 David Taylor (Hon) seems to have two ways of travel at Irwindale Raceway. He either blows the rest of the field in the weeds or everything goes bad on him. Taylor was stuck with the latter as he watched his 125cc Pro bounty go away after two unbeaten weeks, and also the six week " Kin g of the Hill" win streak was broken by Val Tamietti. 125 Pro Mark Lawrence, known as the "Mad Man" around Irwindale circles, claimed the upset with two winning rides in the last two five-lap races , and a second place finish in the opening moto. In the first moto it looked as though Taylor would make another clean sweep as he easily walked off wi th th e win. In the second, Taylor "again grabbed the lead and looked to be on h is way. Then it happened. David crashed off the short jump after the finish line , all by himself. The field moved on by as he attempted to jump back on h is ma chine. By this 'tim e, Lawrence was challenging Clark for the lead and Taylor was letting it all hang out to catch up. When the last lap flag dropped David was up to sixth and moving. The battle had really t igh te ned with Lawrence right on Clark's rear wheel and in the final two turns Mark moved righ t in for the lead. Taylor continued to slide underneath riders and moved in to fourth at the checkered flag. At the final drop of the gate, Clark got the holeshot with Taylor and Lawrence in hot pursuit, Taylor was having trouble with his machine and Lawrence easily moved by for second, Lawrence slipped by Clark for - the lead with two laps remaining, and Taylor pulled off the course with obvious problems. Lawrence held on to cash in on the S2 5 bounty, Clark was second and Tay lor was able to take third. The 250 Pro division was aJeff Vidic benefit, as he walked off with the win in all three five-lap motos for the easy overall. 500 Pro Val Tamietti (Mai) easily captured all three races over "Jumpin Joe" Johnston (Suz) and Jim Lowe, riding a four-stroke 440cc Honda, In " Kin g of the Hill ," T ay lo r was attempting to ' ad d to his consecutive win streak of six , but after leading for a lap and a half, Dave stalled his Honda in the hairpin _tum and T amietti went on to defeat Lawrence for the title . • Results nex t wee k.
