That left DC te ammate Davy Williams to hold off th e charges of T & M ho tshoe Bruce Bru ce worked o n th e McD ougal. receiving end of Davy's roosts the whole race , unable to sneak by for first. Electro Series winner Cary Ogden came through with the 250 Pro vic to ry today aboard a U.S . Suzuki sponsored RM, but Gary didn't really have his stu ff together in the first mo to, It looked like DC might go home with two wins today, as Broc Clover took the win in his premier ra ce aboard th e fire-engine red Elsinore. Ogden rebounded in time to take the fina l two races and sna tc hed th e overall money , wh ich amounted to a healthy S125 . Broc did so me heavy du ty adva ncing in the fin al moto in an effo rt to ace o ut J eff Vidi c for third place money . C lover won o u t and proved th at th e 250 Pros are in fo r as much trouble as th e 125s. • Results in Results Section. SRA 5th Calico Enduro By Photo-Graphics CAl.lFORNIA CITY , CA , FEB 14-15, T his year's Calico enduro provided quite a challenging and exciting weekend for racers. T he cold and windy weather wasn't enough to sto p most people, as witnessed by th e 1,200 rider turnout, an d many more spectators. About 300 riders participated in Saturday's Beginner and Powder Puff race. The co urse was fairly easy, there were no dangerous hills, and the set times were reasonable. Riders en co untered on e hazard about seven miles fro m t he finish line where the markers had been tom down. Some ride rs continued straight, instead of turning where th ey were supposed to, and found themselves at the beginning o f the course starting allover again. Once the riders co rrected their mistake , they rode the last few peaceful miles to the finish on a dirt road. Abou t 9 00 rid ers part icipa te d in the tw o-loop race on Sunday . The first loop co vere d much of Saturday 's co urse, but th e speeds had inc re ased , and th er e was a new section o f t ight, narrow sand washes . Th e second loop was q uite different ; no more dirt road stra igh ta wa y s and rolling hills . Instead, riders sp en t the next 30 miles riding down three foot wide ca nyo ns, up ro cky washes and from one mountain pe ak to another. Th e hills were often dan gerous and har d to cli mb , man y o f them were co vered with shale. The do wngrades weren't much be tter. One last ed fo r five mi les and led the riders in to a sand was h. At o ne point the riders tho ugh t they were almost ho me because they co uld see camp from atop a small hill , but how wrong th ey were. The hill led down in to a treacherous ro ck wash, but from the end of th e wash it was only a few miles to the finish and a soft spot to rest their bones. Results pending. • SRA Riverside GP By Photo-Graphics RIVERSIDE, CA, FEB. 8 At this year's Riverside Grand Prix no one complained of dust; with knee deep mud there just wasn't any dust to be fo u nd, unless you had some left in yo ur van from the wee k b efore. The co urse was wet , to say the least, and the m ost co m mo n problem was just st aying upright. No one co uld tell what was under th e mud and too much standing could prove to be disaster in the turns. The uphills proved to be quite in terest ing. If you didn't get up enough speed at the bottom, t he bike wo uld sink in the mud, and the rider, more often than not, would slide back to t he bottom looking back at his machine at the top . Haybales we re broken up on all th e hills to help soak up some of the water, but the rain increased and th ey just helped turn the hill into a giant slip n' slide . Low ly ing areas became rivers of m ud and water and the trash cans, used for course markers, became slalo m ma rkers for the riders trying to fight their way th rough the ruts und er the surface. Everyone was cau t ious on the pave ment, realizing the reaction of
