Bo bby Pic kard was on his w ay to ano t her dou ble win in the 250 and Open Expert classes and wo uld have had it save for a blown base gasket in the Open second moto , Lo ngview's Mike Gro ce (Yam) then co lle cte d th e win, but his ch allenge slipped to fourth in th e 250, running 6-2 behind Darrell Hollingshead (2-3 ) an d J eff Krin g (3-4) . ,'. Robe rt Coreale grabb ed t he ho lesho t of the firs t mo to with Mickey Pizzat o la running second. Both J o hnson and Kelly had go t te n p oor starts but mo ved into third and fourth wi thin a few laps. J ohnson mo ved past Pizzatola in to second an d started to pressure Corea le as Kell y an d Pizzatola battled for th ird. J ohnson passed Coreale o n the next to last lap for th e vic to ry leavin g Coreale in secon d while Kelly p assed Pizztola in the las t turn for third. Glen Jo hnso n pull ed th e j ump at the start of the second wi th Core ale hot o n his fende r wi th Shawn Kelly running third. J ohnson an d Coreale pulled away from the pack in a battle for first whi ch ended when Coreale easily motored past Johnson's stock bike on a back straight in to the lead and first overall. J ohnson (1-2) finished second fo llo wed by Sha wn Kelly (3-3) . Kin g Tieken tasted victory in th e 250 Expert class af ter a tight two moto battle with Rey Lon goria. Longoria too k th e lead of th e firs t m oto with Tieken in second ahea d of a hard charging Kei th Duffy. Duffy dr opped Rare ph oto of Bobby Pickard behi nd someone . Keith Duffy ret urn ed fo r t he second moto , b laste d away from t he star ting line an d the pack unchallenge d to win . Tieken ran hard but co u ld n ' t m atch Duffy 's rap id pace so he settle d for second in the m o to an d first o vera ll. Rey Lon goria maintaine d a safe third pla ce ahead of Wayne Rutherford to fin ish secon d o verall fo llowed by Mike Buc km aster (3-5 ) and Rutherfo rd (7-4). The Open Expert class was a Keith Duffy benefit as he motored aw ay from the pa ck to a perfect I-I fin ish . Rey Lon goria had second pl ace sewed up un til suffer ing bike problems in th e seco n d moto and dropping o u t. Tieken returne d to the pay line to snatch second overall (3·2) while Bart Batson picked himself up off th e soft dirt t wice whi le running with the leaders to pl ace third.
