Blose held on to second and J o hn Im briale moved up fro m a bad start into thifd. Wells blew his chance at first overall after he decided to ra ce his 250 in the Open Expert class and it seized. First overall honors went to Warren, who is making a tremendous comeback after extensive leg injuries. Bob Blose took a second overall in the 250 class and a win in the 125 and Open classes. He took home S190 total for his day's efforts. There is no charge for camping and the river runs right in front of it, so you can fish before and after the races. There are also two boat docks, co ver ed picnic areas and bathroom facilities. You can even walk into town from the track, since it's only a couple of blocks, everything is real close and convenient. Kevin Welch ended up first 125 Amateurs in his first race on a new Can-Am out of "Goodtimes Cycle," Las Vegas. I still hold my br eath when these kids take a ju mp all co rssed up in the air, "grandstanding" I believe it's ca lled? Pete Sheehan in the 250 class di dn't loo k too bad, ridin g on No . 13 too! The Pro class of course was exciting as they play for the gree n stuff! Len ny Giger was doing pretty good but his bike quit on the last m o t o . Jerry Bagby too k the money home in the 125 class. In the Open class they played games until the third moto and it ended up with Chuck Rush and Ray Hess taking home the money. $50 for Chuck and 525 for Ray. Not bad pay for doing your thing! Trophies fo r this race will be awarded along with the ones for February 15, on March 7,after the day's event at a local family oriented establishment. • Results in Results Section. Four laps? That's all the hacks were ab le to manage as the steady rain worsened conditions to the point where both the pilots and the passengers had to push up anyt hing even resembling a grade. Typical of everyone 's plight was the te am of Palfreyman /Gardner who had both the front and ch air wheels lo cked solid with m ud . They finally dragged themselves over the fin ish line fryin g a cl utch in the process. The big 750 four stro ke s were ou t of their element as the co m binatio n o f horsepower, weight and trac tionless slime slowed them to a cra wl. Norbert Monohan , pilot of th e 75 0 Yamaha/Wasp which finishe d second in year's series , remarked HI mi ght have . been able to get around the co mers if I had a 2.7 5 front tire, but with th e 3.50 th e bike just went straigh t ah ea d ." However, the hard luck award had to go to Ron Swart. He drove 250 mil es to the ra ce only to slide into a three foot ditch at the entrance of th e park and almost en do h is pickup - he missed the race. • Blose pockets top money By Larry Owen PHOENIX , ARIZ., FEB . 8 Racers were treated to a track bein g run backwards and intermittent showers left it in almost perfect condition. In th e first 250 Expert moto , T.J . Warren (Mon) pulled the holeshot and Bob Blose (Ka w ) held seco nd only to be passed by Gary Wells (Hon). Wells berzerked it by Warren halfway into the moto and about the same time, John Imbriale (Hus) took th ird away from Blose and that's how they finished. In the second moto, Warren again E LS INORE, CAL., JAN. 31 Jim Forehand proved his point in two classes at Elsinore Raceway. Armed with a 125 Honda, he too k the trophy in both the 125 Novice class, and the Special Novice Expert class. Forehand had no trouble winning every moto in the 125 Novice class. Terry Singleton, also Honda mounted, followed J im in for second. In moto two Ed Gabler maneuvered his Yamaha in behind Forehand to sn atch second away from Sin glet on and Tommy Walt on fini shed second behind Jim in the fin al moto, Walton was second o vera ll behind Jim Foreh and, and Terry Singleton was third overall. Forehand went on t o take the Novice troph y in the Special Novice /Expert race. Eddie Beeson was the vic t o r overall and pi cked up the one Expert trophy . Jim Forehand was third behind Larry Hedstrom (Yam ), but first Novi ce , so Forehand picked up first place points. • Hackers cried the blues at the Dunes. Fried clutches, mud-locked wheels and slippery slime was the order of the day .
