Bob set his mind to ~or k usi ng h is smooth bu t stylish riding abilit y to mak e up t ime an d distance. Bob Sullivan (Yam) an d Sco tt Davis (Mai) were too far in fr ont an d o u t of reach . Mye rs, wi th his p assin g ab ility , co uld . see Tony Littman in fr ont running third. Myers go t by an d fin ishe d third. The second moto Sullivan, Davis and Myers all needed the win. Myers to o k the holeshot w ith his n ew Suzu ki, with Sullivan in pursuit fo llowed by Davis . Myers soon was 25 sec onds ahead of Sullivan . The real rac e was on between Sullivan and Davis . Sulliva n needed a second to win o verall an d Davis ne eded the same second to wi n second ove rall. Sulli van got off makin g it easy for Davis to go by and take th e second. The line of 250 Experts looked very co mpetitive with riders like Chris Grewer (Hus) , Neal Davis (Suz), Phil Crane (Su z) and Bill Johnson (Yam) . Fremont Hu sky 's Duff y Collins (Hus) sat wi t h the to p riders fo r the lust time. It did not take lo ng fo r Phil Crane (Suz ) to get in fro nt. Chris Grewer was slo wed at the start when a ri der whe ele d an d sat down in fr o n t o f hi m . He rounded th e first tu m abo ut sixth . Chris, having fel t his turn of bad lu ck had ended, settled do wn to racing. Ge tting by Bill J ohnson (Ya m) t hings looked a li ttle easier fo r him. Chris go t off ea rly in th e mote, but without losin g much time was on his way agai n. Phil Crane (Suz) was way ou t of reach for Chris, so he settled do wn and finished second. The second mo to was almost a repeat of the fir st, With Crane in fro nt and Chris wo rking his way up to take a seco n d . Th e closes t ra ce of the d ay was the 125 Novice , Division I. Ken Ries (Ho n), as always, go t th e holeshot and le d the entire moto. Ru ss Da lq (Yam ), Dave Leat (Hon ), Rich T rag o (Hon) an d Mike DeHerr era (Yam) were all wi thi n a bike 's length o r less. As the riders ap proached the fi n ish Trago and Dale y go t by Ries an d finished one and two leavin g Ries with a th ird. The sec on d mo to was a repeat. of the firs t wi th Ries in fro nt follo wed closely by the next five riders.
