It sh ould be a close on e a t the end of November. In the 650 Expert bash , Dave beat brother Paul Bostrom in a romp-em . stomp-em night. John T avis was still the man to beat , bu t his starts weren 't the best. Trying to catch an d pass, he fell twice. in the hea t an d main. Dave led th e main o ff th e lin e, Tavis fell, and foll owing very cl ose, Bill Calieura , new Exp ert Rich Lu hdorff and Paulie we re dueling. The run was laid out expecting either rain or snow, and mileage was run during co ndi tio ns described by Hayward M.C. spokesman Rich Brown as " slop py wet. " A mil eage erro r between checks one and two and unusually go od mid-October we ather co ndi tio ns fo r the Lake Pillsbury area co mb ine d to m ake mos t riders arrive too earl y a t the last four check points, and led t o a storm of protests at th e fin ish line. The mileage error and a protested key-time between ch eck fo ur an d th e finis h line m ay cause the enduro to be declared a no-p oint run by District 36 officials. Mo st riders st at ed it was a b ea utiful ride. well laid o ut. and good en ough to be co nside red a success even if no p oi n ts wer e awarded. . Th e course was well-su p ervised by the HMC.
