Hersman go t the holeshot and led t he first lap. Schwegmann was eating at his kno b b y, saw his move, gOI by a nd the race was on . Schwegmann won th e moto, but had to settle for a sec ond overal l in his first Expert race. Fifteen year old Mike Hersman sh ot off t he line an d in to the first turn. With the track running backward, th e first turn was ex citing, and Hersman was impossible to catch . The second moto was a different story. The band sn apped a nd all riders . reach ed the first turn at the same time. Jack J ackson (Ka w ) took an easy 250 Nov ice win while Bill Schirmann (Yam) and Scotl Champney (Mon) had a close race going for second. Sehirmann edged him out with a two-six score. In Open Expert action, Eric McKenna (KTM) an d Ken Sisler (CZ) provided a super show for the spectators. McKenna had taken t he first moto win, but Sisler had the lead in the second and was headed for the win. A crash forced him to retire with a DN F and McKenna look the overall. • Results in Results Section. Wilson, Lash, Sisler take over Marysville By Rex Backman MARYSVILLE, CAL'~ , OCT. 12 125 Expert Pat Wilson, running wild in the lead, sky shooting off the jumps and waving to ph o to graphers, dominated both motos on th e rough Marysville rive rbottom co u rse. Mounted on a Honda of Marysville bike, Pat took the holesho t in bo th motes with complete ease. Arnold Plant was second in round one with a fine ride, but seized his mo tor in the final. Arnold would have been at Baldwin, Kansas riding in t he Can-Am National, but his engine had been sent down south for work. It was lo st r in freight o n the way back and arrived 10 0 lat e fo r him to m a ke it to t he event. . Plant sti ll managed a t hird overall despite his second m o t o mi sh ap . Beatle Mu rphy (Hon) led the start of th e first m oto of 250 Experts, bUI Randy Losh (Bul) blasted in to the n umber one spot before the first lap was co m ple ted . Montesa mounted Kent Classen was holding down second ahead of Doug Ha rt, with hard-charging Pal Richter on the gas. Losh, who really enjoys ridi ng this track, extended his lead to 3 0 seconds with only four laps down. Back in the pack, Pat Rich tel' (Hus) had moved into second with Classen and Kim Reeg (Bul] following. Richter's shocks took alum .fo r the worse preventing his d ri ve on Losh. Kim Reeg edged o ut Classe n for third in the moto. Losh was first aga in in the red-flagged second moto when Kent Classen suffered an injury to his leg. Richter gave ch ase but the H usky's two year o ld Bilsteins turned into a pair of pogo sticks and Pal took a DNF. Kim Reeg bettered his first moto th ird with a second in Ihis ' round, taking seco nd overall. Gary Cooper finished th ird with a very sick bike, but it was good enough for t hird overall. CZ rider Ken Sisler swept the Open Expert class in the same fashion that Losh did in the 250 class. Sisler took wi ns in both m o t o s, holding a substantial lead over second place rider Chris Hart. John Ke nt p ut together a pair of thirds o n his Bultaco to lake th ird ove ra ll. • Pat (754) Richter was in t he 250 Expert chase until his Bilsteins evolved into pogo sti cks. By the end of the first lap, Hersman (Hon) had moved 10 seventh . On each lap he gained a p lace or two, and o n the white flag, Mike was holding second behind Amaral. Hersman was the firs t to appear as riders rounded the fin al turn atop the 70 mph d ownhill. With his pipe go ne an d a. cr acked pist on to boo t, Hersm an held off Amaral 10 the finish. After the race he 'said , " I didn't think I co uld m a ke it with a cracked piston. The track was really gre at ." Tro y Dc Herrera (Ya m) took this fourth straight win in the 12 5 Intermediate. Having little or no co m petitio n since he got his new Mono, he t ook both motos fro m start t o fin ish . Northern California ace 250 Expert, Bob Myers (Mai) , leading by 15 seconds had things going his way during the first moto, 21 riders were left watching the 14-year-old way out in front . In the second moto , the first turn ca used Bob a lit tle problem when a few riders decided 10 gel it together. Bob rode hard for the remai nder of the ra ce , but with his pipe off, the best he could do was n in th in the moto, givin g him a fourth overall. Randy Losh (Bu l), who finished third behind Steve Sco ffone (Moto) in the first . round, had a n easy win giving him the overall. • .......... a...-e.......I1. .
