Tarnietti dialed right past Vidic for the win with Jennings second. Then came the race of the night. Jennings and Tarnietti were lined up side-by-side on the start. Tarnietti h ad the lead with the Bultaco ace, Jennings, hot on his heels. All of a sudden Tarnietti h igh sided and Jennings crashes over " T arn i 's " bike. They both scurried to get back into the race and Tarnietti was off first. Jennings eve ntually p asse d Tarnietti which gave Jeff the overall for the night and Val second. J eff Vidic finished third in the standings. To kee p th e respect of having the CMC number 1 pla te , y ou have t o win an d win an d win. Well, Mike Bell ( LBH) did so in fine style by wal kin g away with moto s one and tw o of the 125 Pro s. Bell really h ad problems with two other co m petitors, J e ff Bunn (lion) and Ed Clark (Han) . Bunn and Clar k both battled in mota one for second spot with Clark the winner. Clark led mota tw o for two lap s, b u t Bell had too much juice a nd won th at m o to also. Bun n won mota th re e wi th Bell coming from sixth plac e t o p ass four rid ers to finish second. Fo r the record: Bell, Bun n, transferring to the main. The second semi was taken b y Bryan Thibadeaul from Hemet. The two heat ra ce winners must have lost that special touch during their in te rm issio n because neither of them placed in the top three trophy positions. . 10 fact . Zehner must have fallen asleep 'cause he d idn't even show! Roy Por ter was the "fast man" of the pack as he held the lead to win him top hono rs . Gary Ludwig was close behind to steal second away from Guy Gulickson. The 250s were out in droves as t hey filled three complete classes. The Am ateurs running by themselves had Brad Oxley on hand to take control. Bob Eary, was the top man the first time out, with Brad right on his fender. Next go _ u n d it was 16 year old Eddie 'ro Pendleton across the line in front. Eary was second this time, while Brad lost some of his steam and had to set tle for fifth. So meone must have st oked Brad 's fire fo r the third m o t a as he blasted off the line to take the lead and checkered. Eddie too k second and Steve Loomis third. Eddie Beeson, as usual, was the vic tor o f t he 250 Experts. Beeson to ok the win all t hree ti mes o ut and won hi m sel f so me insurance po ints fo r th e to p m an in h is class. Roy Porter was the lucky rider to pick up the first in the 250 Novice class. ,Wit h 18 riders sign ed up, t wo heats and two semis were run. Out in front at t he end of the first heat was Mitch Zehner, 16 from Brea. Th is gave Mitch a direct t ransfer to the main eve n t.
