Earl Parker followed t hird behind the Bultaco rider by ch alking up a first, a DN F and a th ird, on his 360 Yamah a. The 25 0 Am ateur IExp er t class was reall y a co m bin at io n o f gre at riders. Chris Kelbel won th e Am at eur tr ophy, wi th Gr eg Zamora second. Kelbel was first with two wins and a second. Zam ora brought . in a third, first and a seco nd in th a t order, leaving Paul ~ 1cPh ers on to settle for the third. The Ex pe rt s we re headed by 16-ye ar o ld Ed di e Beeson. This fin e rider climbed up through the ranks ver y quickly. Mike Tidwell, the hot shoe of District 3 7 was second overa ll. Mike took two seconds in the first two motos, but took a bad sp ill in the last mota to ge t a DNF. Jeff Springm an, a new 250 recruit, rode well to come through with the third on a • very fast Bultaco. Results in Results Section. Z « Stearn s. Loose dir t and the heavier weight of the m igh ty Triumph proved Mac kel's un d o in g. He managed t o make it to 391 feet, higher than his firs t m ar k, but well below the to p of the hill. This is not the fir st t ime the overall win had go ne to a small bi ke , nor th e fir st time that t he race had been be tween a two -str o ke and a four-stro ke. YZ rider Dana Nelson smo ked the 25 0 Seniors in all three rno tos. Ra king in second pla ce money was Maico rider St eve See, followed by Terry Smith (YZ ). The 25 0 Novice Division saw Nick Peltzen aboard h is CZ ta ke the win over ClIULA VISTA, CALI F., J UNE 25 For the second wee k in a ro w, Ron Turner (C-A) won the 250 Pro class. He had the holeshot at th e start of th e first mota foll owed by Dean Stafford (CZ) , Mik e Stearns (Yam) and Randy Burns (Yam). Tu rner wal ked away wit h an easy win. Round two found Turner getting the jump off the start again. Ro n was long go ne fro m the pack and rolled up another im pressive win. Dean Stafford held o n to t he seco nd place th ro ugho ut the rac e even though Bums and Doug Mell o (Hus) we re ap p lyi ng th e pressu re . Dan Sch ram m (lion) had back to ba c k wins in th e 125 In termed iate class defeati ng Bob Sherwoo d (Hon) in bot h moto s. Sherwood fin ished wi th t wo seconds and a sec o nd overall. Ron Turner al most too k th e 125 as well as the 25 0 Pro class. He had th e lead at the start of th e first 125 Pro moto, but fell in th e second tum and was run over by two bike s. The race was re-started, but this time Dennis Curtis (Ho n ) took the lead , with Ken Frost (Suz) in second place. Frost passed Curtis on lap three and took the win. In the sec ond moto, Turner co m ple tely out-distanced the pack. finished first and took second overall.
