The first mota saw the two of them pull out in front with MacDannald leading and Magoo hot on his tail. After three laps of pursuit, MacDannald lost a berm giving Magoo ju st enough time to get around. MacDannald ne ver regained his lea d, and the pattern was established andmaintained for the rest of the ra ce . Eric McKenna (Hon) was third an d Ron Knarr (Yam) came up from ninth for fourth. In the second mo ta it was Magoo and MacDann ald agai n ·o ff the' line, but before finishing the, first lap, Magoo bit the dust, crashing hard. He finished the race three laps down but still pulled fou rth pl ace money. Dave Word (Yam) was ru nnin g a clean seco n d until his bike bro ke in th e seventh lap and McKenna moved up, ge tting second overall pay. Mark Hilton (Yam ) now running third, lost - it all wh en his bi ke seized at th e sigh t of th e white fla g for the l Oth lap . This time he held on to his hole shot and pulled way out in front con ti nually stretch ing his lead for a de cisive win. Jodry smokes all at Helvetia By Sallee Hilton HELVETIA PARK, CAL.,JUNE 15 A 250 Ex pert field of 24 riders cau ght a glimpse of Brian Jodry's Montesa in the ' first lap of each moto and man y o f them didn't see him again, for he was long gone. The f irs t moto h ole shot was Alex Jorgensen 's (C-A) bu t itonly lasted one lap before J odry too k over. In the second lap Jorgensen ,h ad slipped back to fourth with Kevin Henry (Bul) and J im Lesniewski (Bul) between him and J odry. Fifth lap , Henry, almost' keeping up with J o dry, slipped back to fourth pl ace and Lesniewski - crashed. Don Sandretto (Bul) moved into third. In the sixth lap Henry crashed , returning to ' th e race in 13th p ositi on. Fo r the rest of the race , th e fro n t .ru nners remained unch an ged. In the second mota it was J odry all , the way for a so lid first overall. Henry moved up from ninth to finish se co nd bu t o nly sixth o verall. Jorgensen lost his third in the fin al m inutes when Ron Jun kert (Mon) go t around him j ust be fore the che c kered flag.
