Irwindale, Californ ia J une 26, 1975 Scott Sivad ge was the man of the h oJ r - almost. He was the o nly rider to m ake bo th mai ns, b u t he won neither. His Handicap showi ng, ho wever, was a su perb eve nt. Short yardage riders agai n had th eir nigh t as Kei th Te n nis and Rick Smith lin ed u p for the five- lap fea ture o n th e ze ro. Te n y ards back was Wayne Lewis all alo ne. Then came the p ac k Sivadge, Billy Gray and Larry Shaw, each straddling the 20 . It didn't take lo ng for the sorting out an d it came down to a narrow race between Sivadge and Lewis. Wayne had the advantage and was not about to cough it, and he didn't. even after some brief bids from Sivadge, Gray, who had disposed of Billy Meister in the one-go Match Race, held back Shaw for third. Smith and Tennis had been blitzed. Sivadge had drawn the pole for the Scratch Main bu t came up empty . Rick Woods, with a brilliant piece of riding, captured the event with Jeff Sexto n and Mike Curoso taking second and third. Steve Nutter had to come from the 30 to take his Handicap Co nsolation, but in the process only needed to pass two who started in fro n t: J im Gresh am and Dave Ga lvin. Gresham held to second with Mike Ko nle ripping off third and Curoso fourth . Sonny Nutter ha d to settle for fifth ove r Galvin . The Second Division victory wen t to Bo b by Ross with Den ny Scopeli tte bes ti ng Mike Bendy for second. The real Cinderella story had to be Lewis, though, as he wasn ' t eve n on the pro gram un til he replaced a vacant Dubb Fer rell slot. He was second to Smith in his heat and second to Shaw in his semi. Savi ng the best t o when it tto co unted was his mo , this eve ning. ... ~ .. .... . . . .. . Klotz Speciol Formulo Products, Inc. P.O. Box 1343 Dept. CN75 Ft. Woyne, Indiono 46801 Costa Mesa, California June 27, 1975 With two Handicap Main wins to his credit last week, Big Jim Fishback moved into a tie with Bob Schwartz for total wins, four each. Friday night at Costa Mesa Jim took the Handicap Main over Jeff Sexton, Rick Woods, Jan Ballard, Larry Shaw and Steve Nutter. Fishback and Sexton are best of friends, both riding out of t he Fo ntana-Ontario area, and it was evident that they were having a good old ti me racin g each other as they were st ill stretching out the lead at the flag. Jeff Sexton got down to business in the Scratch Main. No tim e to play here, not with riders like Scott Sivadge, Mike Curoso and Steve Nutter. Jeff took command at once, moved into the lead and never loo ked back as he picked up his third Scratch victory of the season. DO IT ON THE STREET DO IT AT THE DRAGS DO IT IN THE DIRT BUT DO IT WITH Bakersfield, California June 28, 1975 Bob Schwartz must be keeping a record book himself. He did have the lead in total Handicap Main event wins, if you recall he won the first four lIIain events of the season, but not one move until this Saturday night. Jim Fishback had moved into a tie with Schwartz when he picked up two Main event wins last week, but the tie o nly lasted one night. Schwartz ca me from behind to take ove r the lead in the Handicap Main for the tie-breaking victory. Another tie was broken in Scratch Main wins, the Bast Boys were tied a t 10 wins each. Steve did not ride Bakersfield this week because he had broken both bikes. Mike was there and did win t he Scratch Main but no one let him have an easy ti me of it. Bill Meister on o ne of his best nig hts along wit h Jeff Sexton made Mike wo r k his ta il off for the: win. Bo bby Schwartz's win in the Handicap Main softened the blow of lo sin g the Purple Helmet Match Race to Bill Gra y. This coming Saturday night, the fift h of July , will be th e first Cham p ionsh ip event of the year. Bakersfield will again host the Firec:racker Derbv , • I. Hand waShab le .
