It was Shaw and Mike Bast for two of the four laps until Mike Curoso made his move, carrying Bast out wide. Sonny 14 Nutter moved into second as Larry stretched out his lead, then Curo so, then Bast. Early in the night during ' the Handicap heat races Dubb Ferrell was hospitalized after going head fint into the crash wall. He had run into the rear wheel of a down rider and the impact sent him into the wall. He was unconscious for several minutes. Before the night was over it was announced that he was OK with nothing broken. Ventura's own Dan Waller won his fint Division Two Main Event in front of the home town crowd. Handicap Main honors went to Mark Cherf, his second Main event win this season. The five lap. were close with pressure by Steve Nutter and Mike Bast. With the c o n fl ic t c o n c e r n in g t he track 's sanc tion ing resolved , 20 riders suited up for the evening's program, which ended in a three-way struggle between Ralph Castor, Robin Hood and last week's victor Bob Hetrick. Ralph " the Comet" Castor lived up to his newly-acquired nickname as he streaked to a nearly-perfect night's showing, only finishing second to Santa Ana's Mike Gross in the final heat. With three victories, his point total was 15, one more th'an "Big" Bob ' Hetrick; ' , Knotting Hetrick for runner-up honon was the vastly-improved Robin Hood , a real crowd-pleaser, who pos ted two vict ories and two seconds, while picking up a pair of new sponsors . Making his San Bernardino debut was the 17 year-o ld Newp or t Beach flash , Gene Woods, younger brother of three-tim e National Champion Rick Woods. Gene notched an identical score of 14 with two wins and two seconds, consistently leaving his opponents virtually "flat-footed" at the tapes .through ou t the night. The evening's intermission match race was between last week's winner Bob Hetrick and Jim Ashworth, who had to scramble for another bike halfway through the program. Ashworth grabbed the early lead and held it for nearly' a lap ' and cine-half. However, Hetrick, who's had 10 much success
