Each entrant using the King pit crews donates one crew member and these fellows along with some of King's fri ends such as Fred and Jim Quhn com p le tely donate their time to helping the bike co m pe ti to rs. "There is a kind of camaraderie among bike riders," says Kin g. " Even though the y co m pe te vigorously agai nst one another in the race, it is no t un common for them to stop and help a friend. I've seen an entrant bring another rider, who has lost his lights , to th e checkpoi n t in the beam of his own head lamp. Robert Nor Velie joins CyCle News, Inc. Robert L. Nor VelIe, 34, formerly with Beck / Arnley Corporation of New York, has recen tl y j oined the staff of Cycle New s, Inc . as Gen er al Manager. Mr. Nor Velie brings to Cycle News over seve n years of experience in the motorcycle industry. An avid motorcycl ist, Mr. Nor Ve lle also serves on the American Motorcycle Association's Board of Trustees. Upon assuming his posi tion as Gen eral Manager, Mr. Nor Velie stated that, " Cycle News has a tremendous p otential fo r growth and leadership within the m o to rcy cle industry and 1 am proud to be associated with it ." Speedway League delayed by CCC decision LONG BEACH, CAL., MAY 19 Speedway Motorcycle League President, Sharon Clayton , today an nounced that the initial season of the League was being postpo ned , probab ly until the spri ng of 1976. This del ay was necessitated by tec hnical legal diffi cu lties now being nego tia ted with the California Co mmission of Corporations, . These difficulti es we re be cause o f the decision of the State of California Department of Commissions that the Speedway Motorcycle Leagu e should be registe red as a franchise opera tio n. Sin ce none of th e recent sports leagu es formed in California have so registered , S.M.L. declines to set a precedent.
