Corki Moore (Suz) and Pat ' Nash (Ha n ) h ad a few p ro blems, Ii ke blown gaskets, a broken shock, and a seized motor, on their way t o first and second. respectively, in th e 100 Junior Qu alifiers, Taking third behind th e two Carlsbad Raceway Team members was Dan n y Dilkey of DSI on a Suzuki. Vin ce Kreizinger grabbed first in the 250 J u nio r Qualifier on his Honda Elsinore, while Lee .Dyer took second on his Bultaco, followed by Bud Anderson on another Elsinore. • Result s pending. In Open No vice IT Main, Baldwin Park 's Vic Mandella had the lead until his Yamaha lost its fi re, then Tim McCoy in heri ted th e lead in lap four for the win, Hesperia hotshoe, Larry Orr, nailed down second place honors. Action was hot and heavy in the 250 Expert as Rich Liza rdo's Bul and Bill Cains' T win diced it out on the half-mile with Cain t aking his lead in lap four. After Ton y Dc Latorie was forced from the first round with engine problems. Miller slid right on pas t J an nings on the sixth lap of the full-bore donnybrook, and from there to the finish lin e, all he had to do was stretch the ca ble out of shape. During the second round, it was Miller on the YZ from starting gate to final fla g. Pretty much by himself. Runners-up behind the overall victor were Jannin gs, with a pair of second place talli es. and Kolbe, who was staging a return to the racing wars, with a couple of thirds. Zahrt, riding for Bay Area Bul taco, acc o un ted for dual victories against a co m bined field of 250cc and Open racers. Zahrt at first app eare d unable to build a fire in his running gear at the starting ga te in the first round. With the lar ge field already charging up the ini tial hil l and out of view aro un d th e first bend, Zahrt, with the help of " Wild " Allan Cooke, wer e t ryi ng to change a whiskered plug.
