The 2 50 Juni or events were do minated by Doug Renno (Hus), follo wed by Mi ke Boyd (lion ) and Randy J am es (Bul) . Joe Brown (CZ) defeated Bob Ellis (Bu l) in the Old Timers ' division. Hal Strauss [Mai ] won both mo tos in the 250 Expert class, with Don Hansen (Mai) following. Joe Ro o t (a ss) broke down , mec h an ically speaking, while ho lding second pl ace in the last moto and finished th ird overall. To m Clai re (CZ) was second to Dave Haugh (Bu l) in the first 500 Expert m o t o, but reversed those p osit io ns in the deciding round to win top money. McKee, Bell & Rubly take CMC Carlsbad By Andy Hayt CARLSBAD, CAL., APR. 13 Jeff Bardon (Mai) led the first 250 Pro mota with Danny LaPorte (Fra) and Danny McKee tr ailin g closel y beh ind. LaPort e fell in the first la p and McKee flew by and t ook ove r seco nd. Bord o n opened up an enormous lead an d to ok the win . Mc Kee finished a distant sec o nd with Clar k J ones in th ird. In th e second ro und McKee got the j ump a t the start and rode t o an easy victory . J e ff Bordon had to settle for second best in the overall colu mn, wh ile Clar k Jones was right then: for the third position. Even though Mike Bell put o n a good chase, Warren Reid ra n away wi th th e first moto in the 125 Pro class. Danny LaPorte pulled in the third positio n. On ce again in the second moto Reid w as in c o n t r o l of the race but so mewhere alo ng the line Mike Bell passed hi m up. In the end it was Bell in the l e a d and Reid in th e sec ond p o s i t i o n. This time aroun d Do n ' Bo ngiorno grabbed the third spot. Bill Rubly came back fro m an easy win in the first moto t o an amazing win in t he second ro und. After taking the lead at the start he st o pped at the top of th e u ph i ll w i t h shock abso rber problem'S. While h e was busy wi th his sh ocks, J eff J ennings took o ver th e le ad with Jeff Witherell in hot pursuit. Ru bly th en got back o n t he trac k af t er the pack had passed him and began to p ass eve rybody in sight. On the se c o nd to th e last lap he caugh t Jennings on th e uphill and to o k over the lead for th e w in. RubIy performed all these amazing fea ts on a bik e that had no third gear, a bro ken pipe, a hole in the cran kc ase and " two com pletely b ottomed out sh ocks.
