J oh n Hammill jumped to the lea d at
the start of the second mo to followed
by John Hammaker and Dou g Hart. For
the first several laps the first two riders
were separated by less than a bike's
length as they ba ttled for the lead .
Se v er a l t imes they came close to
knocking each other out of the race as
they came down the rough, sandy
straights hitting their bikes together.
Coming through the finish line area
Hammill fell. This let Hammaker h om e
free for the win in the moto and also

overall for the day.
