Spencer SAN JOSE, CAL., DEC . 14 Gary Tonda re turned from an Eastern voyage that netted him somewhere near a grand and a name in the East and South, winning his third 360 Expert Main on the riotous indoor asp halt. Fred Faltersack led out the first half of the eigh t lap Main with Tonda a very methodical follower just waiting for the proper time to pass. On the fifth lap he did his proper thing . and won with ease with Faltersack holding off Scott Pearson. Eddie Caballero stretched his lead on the 100 Novice class to 10 points with another win over Julie Muehlman but the young San Francisco teenage lady holds a tigh dip fac e and keeps trying. Rod Spencer made it eight 125cc Junior wins after last week's crash. Hank Souza held him at bay for a few laps .but slipped off one corner a little wide and gave it up. _ Results in Results Section. Turner only won one class but s,?d he sure got some good exercise, Turner looked like a sure win ner in the 500 Pro race as he rocketed away to a good lead. Following in hot pursuit was John Dieu (yZM) and Chris Willems (Mai ). Mike Middleton (Mai) was on his way up and got by Willems for third. Turner had built up a good lead on Dieu and was starting to cruise. Just when things looked good, Turner's exhaust pipe broke and was getting caught in his rear wheel which really slowed him down. He pulled over to break the rest of it off so he could finish. With two laps to go, Turner took too long. John Dieu m oved into first followed by Mike Middleton and Dan Faucett (Bul) . Turner finished down abo ut sixth. Returning with a fres h pipe T urner jetted out to first in the second mota an d this time was not to be caught. There was a race going on with Mike Middleton and Dave Robison (CZ) back in second place. Robison pushed his CZ a little harder -and came out ahead of Middleton. Pioneer Arena owner Jerry Griffith decided th at a benefit for the family was in order and so with only two weeks to prepare, it started and worked to the tune of over S1000. Mike Montgomery wound up the winner in the 250 Junior Main after John Pittman fell and cracked his ankle, what a day to end nine in a row and make Expert to boot, while AI McGehee took second over Dennis Tyhurst. Ken Roberts helped out by being unofficial starter for the Open Expert and promptly put back about half of the field in trying to conduct a class "C" start.
