Neither slow-moving program nor inane announcing could prevent Steve
Bast from sweeping to a 15 point perfect ride at San Franciso's Cow
Palace indoor speedway. He and brother Mike went into the 19th event
tied 12·12, Steve gated best and held off Mike's determined outside
charges for four laps.
Mike Konle won a Handicap Main that was a ncar photo-finish
between himself, Troy McKee and Sam Vanderhoof. Mike got his winning
drive out of the final turn.
Nine of the 16 qualifiers who bested 20 other rivals in Friday's qualifying were SRA North regulars. One SoCal rider said of the northerners,
"When these guys learn how to ride, we'd better look out, as they arc far
more aggressive racers even now."
