You've heard of race faces. This is Mark Eggar's trials face.
By Lane Campbell
ELSI NORE, CAL., DEC. 15
U. S. Champion Lane Leavitt
(Bul), in contrast to his usual dead
serious demeanor, rode a relaxed,
almost carefree trial, taking the
Ex pert class by 16 po ints over
Mark Eggar. Mark , well known for
brilliant underdog rides on a
22 0cc Cotton, had Honda colors
on this day, rid ing a brand new TL250
prototype. With the production TL250s
due for release b y spring, the factory
appear s to be expanding its trials effort ,
po ssibly with thoughts toward the 1975
AMA National series .
Another piece of equip men t that
a ppeared o n several riders' heads
(including Bob Nicholsen 's and Martin
Belair 's) was Bell's prototype trials
helmet, a shorty design c ut away at the
ears .
The Trial de Espana, as much a social
as a co m p e t itive event, is staged each
year by the AT A member clubs to raise
money to sen d th e ass o cia t io n 's top
