In fourth and fifth positions were the Bultaco riding Lampkin Brothers, Martin and Alan. American entries were led by Joe Gugliemelli (Yam) in 4 5th position, Bob Hopkins (Yam) in 47th and Curt Mayfield, also aboard a Yamaha, in 52nd place. C':l ~ AMA Pro race rules change The first semi-annual meeting of the AMA Professional Rules Committee was held in Westerville, Ohio on May 7 and 8, with 14 voting delegates present. Rul es and rule changes passed by this first meeting of the co mmittee are subject to review when Havins the co m rni t t ee re-convenes in Octo ber w i t h the rule s t o act ually be im p lemen ted January I, 19 75 . Majo r rul e chan ges passed by the c om mit te e include the following : - Machine count requirement fo r all ty p es o f approved eq uip ment was set at 25. - All professional co mpe t iti o n is to be muffled to 9 2 de cib els measured on the A scale at fifty feet as of January I , 19 76. - Rule stating that Novices were to receive 10% of the purse and Juniors 20% of the purse up to $1200 was Changed to raise th e limit to $2000. - Rule requiring th at a rider complete the meet with the machine he qualified was changed to require that the rider co mplete the event (i.e. heat, Semi, final, etc.] on the machine on which he started that event. T hus the rider may use more than on e machine during the course of the meet. - A t any National Championship or international motocross meet, starting positions of the top 20 riders will be determined by current National point standings. CMC star Tommy Croft greased by Frank Rowe Who got back into the 25 0 Experts while "Super Fatso" and George Wegner of Dirt Bike magazine came to whip it. CMC honcho Kel Franks was eyeballing the Expert action m o t o 'cause Croft was on his Franks framed machine wi th a Suzuki mill. The two-40 min ute m o to s were almost handed to Croft, w hic h gave him the Overall. Fran k R o we took a tric k Ya maha to hook a first -mote second b ut then did a big DNF. Alan Kent (Bul) took second Overall . T he las t time I mentioned Dale Walter 1 said his DKW was bogus and he became mildly annoyed.
