Throughout this great nation (at least it used to be great) Sunday has a wide variety 0 f meanings to many different people. To some it is a day to go to church (and a sk to b e forgiven because y ou partied . -, a little too much the night before and ma.de.a turkey out of yourself) . To others It Is . a day to stay home, dnnk beer, and watch the co llege football games. To the motocross enthusias t, though, it is the time of th e week to relieve his inner tensions and an xie ties ( o r kill himself try ing) through motocross. That 's how it was this week at Sadd leback Park as th e American Motocross Club p ut o n ano ther superb race . T he rider t urn~ut w as. high wi t h an overflow of Experts In all size classes. First on the line was th e co mb in ed Min i class . Leading the pack fro m start to finis h in the firs t a nd second rno tos was J eff Ward (Han) . It looked like Ward was going to hav e it " made in the shade" and j ust ta ke it easy in the last rno to, but for some reason h e packed up and left. This gave Pete Hillehecht (Hon) the overall win, followed by Janie Oliver (Hon ) and Ward gelling third place. The 125 Expert battle was one of the most heavily co n tested ra ces of the da y. The crowd went totall y bananas ove r all three- motos. Uncle Donny Emler's Flying Machine Facto~ made an unexpected ap pea ran ce with two star racers. Bob Bro oks (Pen) and Mark Tyer (Pen) both haul ass! Tyer was only troubled occasi onally by second p lace winner Dave y Carlson (Ho n) . Third . pla ce went to Tyee's teammate Brooks. Morris Malo ne (YZ) ra n awa y with the first place green stuff in th e 250 Expert race mu ch to th e sad ness o f the rest of his competition . Second place was a battle between Mark Rodman (YZ ) and Honda factory racer Dave Pessy , Pessy eventually took third wi th Rodman second. Following the m was " Fly in' Hawa iian" Jo hn DeSo to (YZ) . The Open Expe rt ra ce saw Fra nk St einer on a bored out Yamaha 250 sweep his gr oup clean. An easy second wa s Mo tocross Enterprises' promising Steve Sullivan (Mai ).
