CA Just So. Of Chapmon (714) 537-6535 The sections by the Valley Observed Trials Enthusiasts for their observed trials today were extremely tight and almost incredible. The Masters took close to two and a half hours to complete their first loop of several Mark Egger's OSSA went sour on the second loop right when he seemed to be setting the standard. Mark went through two of the most difficult sections without dropping a point which was better than anyone else_ Because of the extra time needed on the first loop, California Champion Marland Whaley (Mon) was penalized 10 points for failing to appear at Section One, (which had a terrible four foot logjump), before it was closed down. Steve Grahm crashed on the section the frrst time around, falling on his bad left leg and bending his left rear shock, a Sammy Miller item. Tree limbs, roots, and lop were used to create the wont sections. In a stream bed where the flood waters bad washed the sand and gravel from the roots of a large old tree, emotions ran high. Phil Smith (third Amateur) was worried about the pOSlibility of his crashing upon a bad limb in this section and offered to accept monetary contributions to inlUre the removal. Later it had disappeared. But even with that obstacle gone only Mark Eger cleared it without putting his foot down. There were a few ones and twos but almost everyone went down for the five count. For thOle who like to get their feet wet, a stream provided some wet, windy, (but not so difficult) sections. First Amateur Larry Barr (Bul) tied with Doug Bradbury (Bul) with 49 points and 21 cleans apiece. The tie breaker was the number of ones and Larry had five to Doug's three. Doug expects to transfer to Expert before the fIrSt of the year, but in his latt six rides as an Amateur he still doesn't have a fIrSt place trophy. Dave Stanley (Bul) was the top Expert, 28 points ahead of second place Andre Plouffe (Bul). Ellis Burman (Bul) and Glen Le;vy (Mon) tied for first place Novice, but Ellis won the elimination. Fred Graham was third. Bernie Schrieber (Bul) gathered some valued points with a first in the Master class, and this just may be enough to give him a good chance at the 1974 Number Two plate. However, the year isn't over yet and George Smith is improving his style. First in the Kids A was Derreclr. Bernard, and Kids B went to Robert Burman. The kids and women had a fun loop to themselves. •
