" Trials fans on hand thought a lot of Mark Eggar's second place performance, and predicted that it was Eggar, recovering from a destroyed wrist, who would give Whaley the most trouble in the battle for the 1974 State Trials Number One. Martin Belair (Mon) and George Smith (Bul), third and fourth Master respectively, were also quite impressive. Smith, often referred to as uthe gentleman of trials", always seemed to have a smile on his face, and never complained. Gary Bergman rode the only Honda to place in the top five of any class, taking second Novice with three more poin ts that Tim Leblanc on a more conventional trials mount...a Montesa. Most of the riders attending the meet were Novices, with ability ranging from cleaning their sections to crashing through the surrounding trees. The Novices make up the backbone of trials. Injured motocrosser DeWayne Jones showed up to watch, and Speedway ace Randy Riggs rode the Amateur Sections on a new Yamaha trials bike.
