As for the Minibikers, first overall went to John Wilson (Hon), with a second place going to Billy Scars (Hon). And finally, the first race...Iargcst of the day ... found all the Beginners hitting the course, with first overall honors going to William Scars (CZ), who also was the fIrst Open Beginner. He was followed across the finish line by two 250 Beginners, David Marshall (Hus), second overall and lust 250 Beginner; and Jimmy Isom (Yam), third overall and second 250 Beginner. • CMC at carlsbad By John Bethea CARLSBAD, CAL., OCT. 14 The 250cc Expert class at CMC day races continues to be the most competitive. The battle today was essen tially between three riders. Marty Moates (Hon) and Jeff Vidic (Mai) put on the first moto show with Moates holding Vidic's final lap charge off. Randy Myers (Bul), the third rider, finished fourth to J on Derhammer (Yam). In the second go, Moates and Myers banged together in turn two area, neither going down, but they suddenly spread about six feet. That was about the furthest apart they were for the rust two-thirds of the race. Moates was on top. Randy then got by and enjoyed a slight build-up of the point all the way to the checkered. A few laps later, Vidic moved by also and took up the chase of Myers. He had to win the mo to to take overall since Moates had third pretty well solid. A lap from the end, he saw there was absolutely no way and backed off. Marty Smith (Mnk) took both rounds of the 125 Experts rather handily and Dave Carlson (Hon) shook off his problems to wind up second overall with a couple of twos next to his name. Rick Sheren's consistency of a pair of fourths paid off with a third on poin ts on the Honda. The 500's went again to Tim Lunde on the Maico. We say again since he won Friday night at Irwindale on this very machine, although it was his first outing of the year in day racing on a 500cc machine. Mike Yorba, who is getting his Bultaco to move a tad faster each wet"k, took third in the first round then finished off the day with a ride from next to last all the way to second. That earned him second place cash over Steve Ship key (Mai), who dipped to fourth in the rmal race after a first moto second. Brad Lynch (CZ) gave the 250 Intermediatt"S a thrashing as he dominated the class except for the Imal moto when Mike Winters (Mail snatched the win but settled for a distant second on points. The 125 Intermediate was just about as spread. out, but more competitive as Bill Glore led the Honda sweep with a rust, second and fourth. Steve Bartley was an early contender and actually won the second round, but his 16th in moto three stopped his bid cold. The same with rmal moto winner Greg Bartock. He crashed in turn one of the start of the first moto and never finished a lap and was, therefore, not scored. He took third in the second round and it wound him up to third overall. Mike Tague avoided a possible overall tie in the 500 Intermediates when he won the final race and Steve Roach took fourth. Overall, then, it looked like this: TAgu<- 3-2·1 and Roach 2-1-4. That's close. The tic actually did occur in the 500 Juniors between Don Cox and Jeff Wenzel. Each had a first second and third but Cox's second wo~ it for him in the final round. , Highlighting other Junior action, both divisions of 250's ended up in sweeps for winners Ken Frands (Yam) and Jerry Armstrong (CZ). • Has What It Takes For Extreme Heat and Long Periods Of All Out Racing!
