Main MilPitas, Calif. 95035 She easily won at Vallejo Saturday night on a speedy short track following a Friday night short track win at Petaluma. Petaluma is where she won her first scrambles against the men in June. Since then, she has frequently place!! in the Novice class on abou t every track in Northern California. • The Expert Mains at Vallejo went to Dennis Robmson and W!.de Boyd. I t is the third in a row at Vallejo for Robinson, and you may expect many more before someone beats him off the starting line. In the 250 Expert class, Wade Boyd (B u1) led all the way in the Main wi th Duane Yarrow (Yam) second and Mike Kane getting third on an elderly OSSA. Yarrow had led most of the way in a qualifying heat won by Darrell Williamson on an Elsinore Honda. The heavy action is in the Junior classes. J oho Kresha (BuI) led the 200 Junior class by inches sometimes, then Rusty Davis (Yam) would. They were in contact in the closing laps with Rusty Davis having the leading edge when David Quigley split the two by edging ahead of Kresha on the outside while Kresha's front wheel was polishing Davis' boot on the inside. In the last corner, the predictable happened. Quigley, Kresha, and others fell with .Kenneth Peschel far enough belllnd to get around them for a second place finish to Rusty Davis. . The first four places in the 250 Junior class were narrowly separated all the way without the front-wheel bumping that occurred in the 200 class. Winner Tom Fleming (BuI) led all the way with, at first, Marlin Stewart beside him and Rick Delacy in third with Brian Brown moving up in to fourth. Brown finished in second wi th Delacy third and Stewart fourth with the four closely packed at the finish. Took an official decision to determine the placing, but suprisingly the decision was unanimous with lap checkers, referee, and riders agTeeing. There were 138 entries which is three riders more than a Vallejo point race drew. Not bad considering many regulars were at Oakdale for a District point race. Oh! Gary Pietruskiewicz easily won the 125 Novice final. I couldn't have caught that name had I not seen his picture in Cycle News. Bailey (408) 262-3388 You might think tFiis was the start, but it's not. Tom Fleming (201G) is about to win, with Brian Brown (7OW), Rick Delacy (79F) and Marlin Stewart (128B) following. James Brammer Coos Bay Flat Track COOS BA Y, ORE., JULY 4 Maico JI 'CYCLE I .L__ -* * I' order who fits loosely of Dick Mann's leathers, currently 100 Novice class. A field of 96 entries turned out for the Independence Day Races at Ken-Kel Park and provided the crowd with an exciting afternoon of top-notch flat track racing. A sizeable contingent of professionals were on hand with the obvious purpose in mind of dividing up the attractive Ken-Kel purse. However, the Amateurs held them off and wound up with "Iion's share" of the money_ Top money winner of the day was Lee Stumpnhauf (BuI). Lee picked up $50 for his win in the 250 class, and another S I 00 for. setting a new track record of 17.086 seconds, which was a full second faster than the previous record. The hard fough t coniests brough t about a sizeahle numbers of unexpected "get-offs" and, unIortunately there were two serious injuries. Rick Nice sustained a fractured leg and Doug Thompson suffered a severe cut in the area of his lower jaw. I mproved track conditions contributed to the establishment of the new track recoro and it is anticipated that as Ken-Kel moves into its night racing program, the records will continue to fall. Racing undeT the lights begins Saturday, July 14th at 8 PM and will continue every Saturday night for the balance of the summer. Dennis Robinson has taken the 360 Expert three weeks in a row at· Vallejo.
