CA. 93703 Len Macchiarella, riding a Montesa VR for Moore and Sons in Santa ·Cruz, was unbeatable in the 250 Senior class at Sand Hill today. MacchiareUa put down hard charges from Jim Turner in both motos and out rode aU other riders on this dusty track. Macchiarella, who has lately been experiencing petty bike problems got it all together today for a very big win. Turner, riding a Montesa VR for Selby Motors in Redwood City, tried time and time again to catch tbe flying Macchiarella but his charges were in vain as Len just got it On in both of his mO'tos. Mike Middleton brought his 250 Maico in for a well fought third. Ron Huffman got it together in the 125 Senior class. It was sort of a.match race between him and Mike Amaral (Suz). Amaral has been the winner lately on his lightning quick Suzuki. But today Huffman put his Grand Prix Cycles Monark in to the lead in bo th and kept it there for the win. Steve Castillo Photos by Bob Anderson Graham Speedway GRAHAM, WASH.,JULY 20 The Don Lipp Memorial Race at Graham Speedway was held under cloudy skies with sidehacks and an exhibition race put on for the spectators as an added attraction. With just a handful of Experts (most being down South for the National at Ascot), it was still an enjoyable event as Steve Baker edged Out Roger Stanley to win the first of the Expert heats. Dick Wascher won the second heat with Pat Marinacci second, Jim Patereau won the Expert Semi with Brown second. Stanley took a short lived lead in the Expert Main as Wascher turned on the gas and took over the lead, stretching it out. Burres put the pressure on Stanley for second and took over moving Stanley back to third. Marinacci, who wa~ running in fourth, developed engine problems and, in trying to discover what the problem was, slid ou t in the sweeper, putting him out of the race for the night. Steve Baker also went down in the first tUTn and retired for the evening. Wascher maintained his lead to win with Burres second, and Stanley third. Wascher took the honors all the way as he passed Burres in the Expert Trophy Dash and went on for the win. The Expert Exhibition race was run on the oval, omitting the dogleg. Leonard took his Yaroaha in to the lead and gassed it to win with Brown second. Bob Cooper grabbed the lead in the Junior Main Event with Charlie Brown working his way through the pac k to close the distance between himself and Cooper and press Cooper all the way, riding wheel-to-wheel, but never being able to pass as his engine would go on one side just as he was about to pass and lose power. Even wi th a sick engine, it was close as Brown kept his front wheel even with Cooper's rear wheel, trying to make Cooper make that one mistake that would allow Brown to pass. Cooper hung on and won with Brown in a very close second. Allan Mund t moved up from the back to place third. It looked like it was going to be Duane Hendrickson all the way again tonight as he first won his heat, then the Nov!ce Trophy Dash and was leading the NoVice Main Event. But Lady Luck just wasn't smiling on Hendrickson tonight, as the same problem that has plagued him all season, again plagued him tonight and his engine blew up with just a few laps to go to finish the Main. Don Smith from Oregon took over the lead and held it to win wi th Dirk Goroski second and Mike Boyes third. Pennie Doutt 13347 W.
