Ralph Weilding (Bul) did a real fine job to take second. The 250 Senior action again saw Dan Turner racing bard, but he didn't bave it so easy as Ron Self (Mai) provided some great opposition, in fact Ron won the first mota. The second mota looked like another runaway for Self, but he dropped it and was a while in getting up. Turner soon found himself in first. Self go t going again but Turner was to far ahead, Turner took the overall win with Self second. Open Senior featured three riders, three riders may not sound like a lot, but today these riders were racing as if there wasn't any tomorrow. The first mota saw Maico mounted Bill Scarlett take the lead over Ron Self Deschutes Cycle Park then ~X by J"n Newman BEND, ORE., Nov. 5, 1972 "7 With the 100 Junior and Intermediate classes riding together, Davis Fearn (Yam) look.ed more like an Intermediate than a Junior as he left all his class in the dust. Curt Girod (Ric) took the checkered for an overall Intermediate first. • Tim Fujii looked untouchable in the 125 Junior class until the,last lap of the third mota when mechanical problems slowed him to a limping third for that race. Cary Sadler rode his Yamaha past for the win and second for the day. In the 125 Intermediate a couple of riders who were disqualified because they were Expert riders overshadowed the closest race of the day. At the fmish the two Experts along with James Harris (who had gone down and was a lap behind) came across first. Mark Harris (Suz) came into the straight with Barney Newman (Man) on his heels. They decided to make a go of it and came across the finish with Harris in front by just about the tread on his front tire. Newman went on to win the next two for first. The final 250 Junior mota turned out to be a real duel between Steve Sundseth (CZ) and Grant Hudkins in a moment of excitement. The race then became a contest to see who could get started first. Self won _ (Mai) and Henry Halbach (CZ). The next tour around saw Scarlett out with mechanical ills. Halbach and Self were at it again in their same old duel really mixing it up. Things looked good for Halbach as he had the point with Self breathing on his rear fender all the way. Just before the up hill, Halbach misfudged his line into the berm and crashed. Self being only a breath away ran into Henry's bike killing his motor. From that pain t on it was a race to see whose motor started first. Henry kicked - nothing, kicked again nothing, Self kicked once and that was it. Ron shot to the lead and the win. The next mota again saw Bill Scarlett take the lead with Self in second spot moving up quick. Halbach was out with bike troubles. Scarlett looked like a sure thing, but it wasn't his day as he dropped au t leaving Self to take home the coins. _ (Yam). Each had a first and a second in the bag. Fate struck Sundseth with half a lap to go and down he went. He was up quickly but Iiad lost his chance to catch Hudkins.
