MARYSVILLE, CAL., Ocl. 22, 1972Charlie Marshall probably had to leave
his girlfriend at the track. to make room
for all that brass he picked up at the
final race of the Yuba·Sutter
Motorcycle Club's three race series! The
Maico ace .pulled out first Open Expert
and second 250 Expert in th e series
totals plus his usual first in the Open
class that day. Edging out Charlie in the
250 series race was Mike Jennings on his
Husky with Rick Clement (Puch)
grabbing 125 Expert honors.
Starting off the day was Greg Martz
(Hod) zapping the 100 Novice class
after hard-luck Ray Brock lost Ills chain,
Brock came back and won the second
mota but Greg had the points for the
overall win. In Division 11 bearded Paul
Sexton U
Loren Alberico leads overall winner Tony Pallara (662) in the second division of 250 Novices.

PORTERVILLE, CAL., Oct. 22-23,
1972 - The only problem with the
partying Sunday night was the racing
Monday. Never have so many used-up
appearing people been gathered in one
place at one time. Nevertheless. the
racing on the second was just as great as
the first, although several riders seemed
to be reluctant to turn that loud handle.
Darrell McCaulley could do no w[ong
on either day, as he came in the winner
wire-to-wire both days in the Open
Expert. On Sunday, Darrell was chased
by Elephant Earl Bachant and Hank
Conklin, while Monday's race saw Jack
Rothstein pull in second and Earl was
third.
On Sunday the Open Junior winner
was Ray Evans, followed by Grant
Salyers and James Reed. Sunday's Open
Novice saw Gerald Rogers come in first
ahead of Ron George and Ron Clawson.
Monday, the two classes were combined
and Rick Zimmerman did a beautiful
job of come from behind riding to win,
chased by Novice Gerald Rogers.
The 500 Expert class was exactly the
same in fmishing order each day and the
two Mains were almost carbon copies.
Both days Bill Payne had to come from
behind to win and both days was chased
by Heavyweight Point Leader Lyle
Moore and Rick Reed. Bill has raced in
three events since he turned Expert and
has won all three, including the heats!
The 500 Junior was completely
different on each day as Sunday saw
Steve Gray bring off the win ahead of
Robbie Collins and Dave Pereira, while
Monday it was an all Suzuki show, as
the order was Ron Mathews, Bob Garcia
and Dave Smuts.
Monday's race had a 360 Junior
event and Jim King came home the easy
winner on his new Yamaha in front of
Dave Pereira. Mike Sexton came up
from District 37 for the two-day even t
and couldn't be touched in the 500
Novice either day. Both days Mike was
chased by Jerry Frazier in second.
The 250 Expert saw Bruce
Baesemann win Sunday chased by Art
Carter, while Tom Francisco got the win
Monday, followed by Carter once again
in second· and Baeseman'nJih' tliird from'
the penalty line. No one in the 250
Junior managed to get into the top
three both days. Rod Lessley grabbed
the win Sunday, chased by Bill Kinney,
and Mel Walker picked up the win
Monday ahead of Grant Salyers.
Sunday, Steve Romanazzi got the
250 Novice gold in front of Rocky
Morales and Jeff Dotzler, while Monday
Dotzler got it all togethet and took
home the win followed by Romanazzi.
Jim McAleer and Randy Griffith
swapped positions in the 200 Expert,
with Griffith winnins Sunday ahead of
McAleer and Bob McClure, on a
borrowed bike. Monday, McAleer got
the win chased by Griffith. After a long
dry spell, Tim Phillips seems to be
getting it all together again as he chased
David Pittman and led Jerry Wi1liams9n
in the 200Junior on Sunday, then came
in the winner on Monday. Randy
Kincade, who must be the most overdue
Novice in the district, couldn't do any
better than third on Sunday in the 200
behind Darrell Win ter and Richard
Allender, while Monday he led from
wire-to-wire.
Jeff Lessley doubled up in the 125
Expert, winning both days. The 125
Junior was another carbon copy even t
as both days saw Eddie Mascorro lead
from flag to flag, chased by Jim Janzen
and Phil Mascorro. The 125 Novice on
Sunday saw Mike A1Ien pick up the win.
Monday it was Randy Myers who got
the win, which should put him over the
hump to Junior.
Doug Garrison showed the 100
Experts the quick way to tl,e flag on
Sunday in his first weekend of Expert
class racing. On Monday, Ban tam weigh t
Point Leader Bill Johnson was not to be
denied and came in the winner. Brian
Hurst made one of his infrequen t
appearances in the 100 J unlor unday
and came in the winner. Then on
Monday, Mike Delliplaine grabbed the
win. Mike Woods won the 100 Novice
both days.
Jeff Bell won the 55-70 Junior
Expert on both days, which should be
just about enough to make him an
Expert. Bill Hartman won the 70 Novice
both days. On Sunday, Kelly Dynge
won the 55 Novice, while on Monday,
~ L'yle fIarris got
win. ' . ,
