Just ignore the bad weather and let's race. The track was in exec lien t condition after the rains. Just tacky enough for good traction. The berms built up beautifully and .the riders took full advantage of the super track conditions. Billy Beck, (Pen), was top man overall in the 125 Junior class. Robert Morrison (Pen), finishing second followed by Greg Severns and Joe Koehler, both on Hodakas. Billy would race one mota. jump off his bike, go get 'enough one and take off to race in the 126-200 class. lie won every mota in both classes. Ken Holcombe gave him a lot' of competition in the 200 class. Billy took first overall, Ken second and Ctark McCurdy took third. Old "Greybeard" himself. John Mackey, took the fourth place trophy. He has more fun out there than anybody. Qualifying in both the l25cc and 250cc among the top len points leaders Sack unloaded his 125 Bul while running first in the Main. Even though he was a full lap behind, Sack picked it up and wailed on 'em. He had passed the leaders when he ran out of race and still finished eighth oul of ten starters. Gary Hruby picked up the gold with Joe Kuljis second and Ron Magus third. The 250cc Main was the crowd pleaser of the day with Sack jumping into an early lead, afler the restart when Gary Hajek came off hard in the first turn. With the lead swapping between Ed Virosko, Sack and Hajek, the race was a wow from starl to finish. By the tenth lap the pressure was toO much for Sack and he bobbled a little and Yamaha mounted Daryl Lybuk of Kalispell drove under him taking the show position with "Steady Eddie" ~irosko picking up the win and Hajek placing. ~ . .....r ;,"'. ~,.-, , Back again in the Open class Ed heats and both were super fast ones. Steve Foster (Puc) got off to a bad start in the first mota but he worked himself up to second place behind Kent Howerton (Yam) and they battled it ou t. First, Ken t; then Steve would pass him. The first place slot changed back and forth several times. Kent finally won this mota but his luck ran out though on the second moto. He was leading the race when his throttle cable' snapped. He coasted over to the sidelines, grabbed a coat hanger, hooked it to his pumper carb somehow and took off again. He finished that mota with one hand on the handle bars and one hand working his rigged-up throttle. After points were tallied they showed Steve Foster first, J ames Garcia second and Kent Howerton third. a matter what the weatherman dishes out, there will be racing on the second Sunday of every month as well as the fourth Saturday and fourth Sunday. I heard they were thinking of installing ligh ts at MotoSports Park so they can have night motocross. 1 might have something more definite on this after my next visit in San Antonio.
