Saddleback .Park has made changes and
you'll love them. They brough t tons of
sand, filled in the ruts and added new
jumps. There was absolutely no dust. AI
righ t Vic Wilson! Great!
The lastest import from Sweden,
Kenneth Ollsonn (another Husky freak),
dropped in to put the 500 Expert win
under his belt. Ken had decided to be
number one in the second race after
coming in second in the first heat. But
being so far ahead that you don't look
like you're even in the race is really
ridiculous! Chip Howell. also on
Husky, had the first moto win but had
some trouble staying in' the top five in
the last one (but he still got the second
overall) .
Another foreigner in the crowd was
Mike Krebs, No. 1 motocrosser from
Kansas who was shipped here for the
Trans-AMA race, didn't have such a
great day with getting only a sixth and a
third in his motos. He'll have to do a
great deal better before the Trans AMA.
Mark Anderson broke a master link in
the first run but made his bid for third
overall by taking the second spot in the
last run.
After fixing the nat he received in
the first moto of the 250 Expert run
Gaylon Mosier came back ·to grab the
overall by winning the second moto. He
had a little trouble wb~n he grabbed a
few banners and let Doug Sherman (CZ)
and Tommy Croft by. By the finish .of
the next lap Mosier was back in the top

position.
Now was the battle for second
between Croft, riding for Roy Keyn
(sorry about last week Roy); Sherman,
who won the first moto; and Jon
Derhammer (CZ). The figb t was fierce
with Sherman and Croft going back and
forth with Derhammer doing every thing
he could to get past both of them. Doug
developed some bike problems and
Croft and Jon slipped by along with
Tim Battenschlag (Mai). At the finish it
was Mosier, Croft. Derhammer,
Battenshlag and Sherman.
Cbarlie Bower easily won the first
moto and it looked as if it would
happen again as he clearly had the lead
coming out of tbe starting gate but
that's where it ended. By the second lap
Cbarlie was noticeably slowing down.
First, crazy Jeff Vidic, wbo was on
Bowers tail for the second time, slipped
by; then Matthew Roth and Gary Huber
(Bul) were the next two by. When the
fourth lap came around Charlie was last.
Coming off tbe track after the race his
machine sounded like a meat grinder.
Back in the race Vidic was stretching
out his lead over Roth and Huber. Davy
Carlson, on a Yamaha~ was moving up
from the back of the pack and
positioned himself behind Huber but
just couldn't get around him until the
last lap.
By the end of the race, Jeff had
opened his lead to 13 seconds and with
a second in the first heat easily look
home the overall.
Remember the 125-250-500 match race?
