"i' ! N .... /1 ~ a.. 4 '" co; beginners class! Another quick beginner is Dick Lansford who came injust two positions back to prove that Maicos really can be made to gallop for more than 10 miles. We hung around the pits long enough to see all the day's accumulation of trash and tons of Coors cans being shoveled down an obliging mine shaft which was discovered just off a fire road in the area. This particular one was about 70 feet deep, and no berm around it, and was located behind a bush just six feet off a well traveled fire road, Has a lot of tragic possibilities, doesn't it.? SRA drove stakes around it and tied brigh t orange ribbon that could be seen quite aways and effectively took care of it now; but you wonder how many more bushes hide the same menace. Could it be possible that our Uncle's boys at BLM just might spend a bit of their time they devote to harassing bikers, and force miners to upick up their trash"? SRA officials asked that we print their apology to the riders who came expecting free cold beer for everyone. Seems that they had given nearly 20 cases of Coors and cokes to all the finishers at the last event and spoiled a few who thought it really was a good idea. Perhaps Martini and dan.cing girls next time? Ron Vincellette tells 'me that their next event will be a European Scrambles north of Adelanto on October first. To celebrate the end of summer, SRA will feature a special race for the girls, all by themselves, and the entry fee will be forgotten. Just think; no entry fee, finisher pins, 20% trophies, no riding against the slower men, and just maybe martinis and a floor show. (?) SRA Hare Scrambles OOPS!! PO Box 26062, Sacramento 95826 DEALERS- by Lou Whitney Photos by Dale Coats FOUR CORNERS, CAL., Sept. 15, 1972 - The last "Early-Bird" Hare Scrambles of the SRA summer season was held in an area that hasn't seen the thundering hordes for some time, It was described by everyone 1 talked to as the best course that they have seen ·this summer due to the fantastic variety of riding country and the lack of fIre roads'. .Converted motocrosser (for the day , at least) Mike Mulconery pushed his new 450 Husky around the 21 mile loop in just thirty minutes to lead another MX'er Kit Malone and SRA regular AI Hull by less than 50 yards. The fourth place was quite a way back as the three seemed to be making it all by themselves. One observer stationed along the 10 foot high bank of a sand wash claimed they were riding the "wall of death" all the way to the top as they snaked through the turns. This wash was the highlight of the course for many who had never ridden one quite like it before, It started right up in the mountains as a six foot deep, six foot wide sand gully with a 45 deg.ree angle turn every 30 or 40 feet. In the mile or so before it widened, there were at least fifty spots where a rider could slingshot from one wall to the other and never really be straight up in the saddle. At 8:04, about 175 beginners shot off the starting line for the two mile run - to the smoke, When it was all over,Jim Bragg had pushed his big Yamaha to a great 2!lth overall position.
