RICKMAN Micro 125 JEFF WRIGHT SANTA CLARA ta Clara County Supervisors are eyeing a possible motorcycle park for the county's 71,000 riders. A piece of property was recently purchased in the Coyote area and development by the county was to be for a sheriffs jail facility and a possible park. With some aid from Hal Kenyon, Jr. and R.C. Damico of Santa Clara the Parks and Recreation Commission is actively undertaking the use of the Ramelli ranch property for bikers. The actual number of acres available is not known for sure but might reach 3,000 depending on the plans. The park would set precedence in the state and would require helmets and mufflers for use. The feeling in the area is getting stronger as the rider realizes that the taxes that he pays for using his bike go into things like golf courses, marinas and tennis courts and not into something that he needs. If this site is ever set aside, the rest of the state would have a plan of a~tion to look at so that in the future, similar parks might be set up for aU motorcycle enthusiasts. By Larry Knop Photo by Gary Payne LEIU. TAH, June 13. 1971 - The luck of the Challengers came through again and you should have heard the riders complain al the Challengers' Lehi Ambulance Fund Benefit ~lotocross Sunday. There must be a conspiracy. Whenever the Challengers schedule a motocross the weatherman schedules rain, or snow, or both. This time it was rain, a couple of days before, but it was enough. The rain changed three small mudholes into six large ones. For the past three months almost every motocross in the desert state of Utah has been a muddy one, and. the riders finally decided they had had enough. They griped, they moaned, but they still put on a good show. The Novices put on a bashing good show - literally. All the Novice classes were large, and the first corner wasn't. In fact the first comer was narrow, tight, and tricky. Crunch. No one was injured in that comer all day, but some of the pile-ups were worthy of a Los Angeles freeway. The Experts weren't nearly '!S good a show - crash wise. There were fewer of them, and they just went through about 5 mph faster. Actually they were saving their crashes for other parts of the course. Don Fuller, in the Open class, was a one-man demolition derby. It just wasn't Don's day. It was Bob Brown's day as he took the class over Frank Myers. It took Bob one moto to learn how to wipe the mud off his glasses while making a 180 degree turn up the side of a hill, and from then on he was untouchable. The best racing of the day was in the 250 Expert class. Steve Burgess finally took a tough decision from Woody Lawhon. The Benefit race looked to be a and should success, financially, contribute materially to the purchase of a new ambulance for the city of Lehi In addition th e races were run with dispatch, and scoring, despite the mud, seemed accurate. All in all, a good race. (Results on page 48) (Can we help it if our little Micro 125 thmks It's a 250 'cause it runs like one ?)
