By Howard J. Ebk Jr. The Yuma Prison Run by the Norwalk Centaurs M.C. turned out to be the biggest one yet with some 1150 entries. The best feature was the fine riding weather that had it up in the dry 90's. Of course this was only one of the more enjoyable factors of the well-presented and smoothly run camp out along with a "Tour Pin". For those unfortunate souls that missed this one be sure to put this on your calendar of road runs to make next year. OFF TO MEXICO I was down to Calexico last week to see the group off to Mexico on the 3rd annual Motorcycle Vacation Tour and was very much impressed with this very unique group, several of whom came a 1,000 miles or better to make it. Just about everyone on both sides of the border were equally impressed as such a large gathering of "good guys" in this area was something that needed to be seen. The Chief of Police in Mexicali was impressed enough to offer an , escort. Bon Voyage you lucky people! 1 sure was tempted to hang it up and go along especially when I ran through rain on the way back. ' GOOD RUNS COMING There are several runs coming up that merit mention and I'd like to pass these along to you. First of all the C.C. Riders of San Jose, Calif: are hosting a Poker Run and a Field Meet on the 2nd of May that looks promising. A lot of activities ate planned and it starts at the Pueblo Picnic area at the end of Bernal Rd. in San Jose. N ext we have the Annual North-~OiitIJ Run hosted by the Artesia Piorieers, who ~ ave scheduled a campout at Pierce Park, 1 mile east of Centerville on Hwy. 180. There will be a "Tour Pin" offered for those who collect the good pins, along with plenty of activities, a field meet, dinner and a dance. Sign in for this one starts at 6 a.rru on the lst of May. Then on May 22nd is offered a Poker Run & dance sponsored by the Santa Cruz Road Runners starting at Jimbo's Pit in Scott Valley, Calif. Sign-in for this one will be from 1 to 3 p.rn. Last yeaf I managed to make, this run and I can vouch that the dance was a winner and the run was without a doubt the most scen.ic that I ever had the pleasure to make. Following right along will be the Shas ta-Cascade Wonderland Tour offered by North Valley Travelers at Clair Engle Park in Redding, Calif. for Memorial Day weekend. Offered with this one will be a uTour Pin", d'ance, swim~ing and decal, along with 8 guided tours and plenty of activity. Having been there on the last one I can speak for the fact that there is plenty to do and see all over the place on this one. The sign-in will be all day on the 29th of May. Also on the Memorial Day weekend is the annual Payson Tour in Arizona sponsored by the Arizona Jackrabbits. Sad to say I do not have any infonnation on this· one, however those who think that they might be inerested can contact Bud Allen, the Arizona Road Riders Committee chairman at I I BU-LTACO MAILORD,ER Speed Equipment, Custom Engine Work. I cannot promise to include all runs, however I will endeavor to mention the ones that seem to be the best bet for scenery: fun and fellowship. I'd like to ask you readers to send a get-well card to a fellow biker, a chap who has been long been well known from So. Cal. Keep Tab Of The Shoes ",- BOB FUSAN, runner-up behind JACK McLANE in the AMA National Enduro circuit in 1970, won overall at the Fallen Timbers National Enduro at Delta, Ohio, on March 21; RON BOHN was the class A champion; JOHN PENTON took the A Open... GARY BAILEY, famed motocrosser who is currently touring the U.S., really put on a show at the Tullahoma, 'Lenn., motocross on March 28. He won two of the three motos in the 100 class and came back with clean sweeps in the 125, 250 and Open classes - that's 11 wins in the 12 events he entered... SONNY DeFEO collected the winner's share of $1000 motocross purse offered at the Asheville, N.C., races April 4 by taking a pair of firsts in each of the 250 and Open classes. REGULARS SWEEP HBCP By Rich Hoffman HUNTINGTON BEACH, CAL., April 25,1971 - Regular H.B.C.P. riders took full charge today with wins in the 100, 125, 250 and Open classes. Starting the day out on a new track layout was S. Okuda (Yam) who took first place honors in the 100cc Nov. division. G. Johnson, another regular, took the overall win in the 125 Nov. As usual the 250 Expert division was the race of the day as C. Highland (Bul) wasted little time as he took the first moto over Tom White, also on a Bultaco. In the next moto it was Highland out in, front again with Dan White (Bul) taking a close second. In the third and final moto Highland was again the front runner until a blown clutch put him out of the race and Dan White came on to win .th e mo to and firs t overall for the day. " Track conditions caused some problems today, but race promoter Norm Fleece pro{Ilised better conditions for his next. (Results on page 24) Lloyd Dominates 'elas Motocross By Pete Szilagy CUERO, TEXAS, April 18, 1971 Ricky "Only In It for the Money" Lloyd took home the most cash with impressive wins in the 125 and Open classes and a second in the 250 class during motocross action at Cuero MX Park today. His main oppOSitIOn was Dave Fowler's Bultaco in the 125 and 250 classes while that long-awaited 125cc showdown between Loyd and fellow Austinite Jack Hicks proved to be a bit of a disappointment. Lloyd's experience, free-wheeling style and fast Kawasaki were too much for Hicks' deliberate riding style. The 250 battles between Fowler on a new PurSang, Lloyd and Dave Dismukes on their CZs provided the best racing of the day. The three riders sajled around the hard-packed corners shoulder-to-shoulder until Fowler left the opposition in the dust on the final two laps of the last moto. The Open class was characterized by sloppy riding. The only riders that exhibited any style were Lloyd and Scott Elliot on their CZs. The Open Juniors were a slow group, but it is refreshing to see beg'inners in the Junior class rather than the trophy-mongers that seem to never graduate to the Senior class. The other Junior races were full of exciting wheel-to-wheel battles. Winners were 125 Joe Witter on a Penton, Tony Ebers aboard a 250 Maico, and Honda-mounted Dave Bosart in the 100 class. . The drought that is occurring in most parts of Texas is making life miserable for th e mo tocross crowd. The tracks are all hard, slick, and dusty. Perhaps the spring rains will finally come and give us some relief...and traction. l..... I» -< C I: I» C; _. C C :II:'" = = cr ... .~ r----I~-----.
