Tlte Big Question At Ade'anto
Wlto's M,ster, Clterr, Picier?
By Dale Coa Is
ADELANTO, CAL., April 18, 1971 - A
record 510 riders braved wind, sleet and
even snow in Cajon Pass before breaking
out into the sunshine of the high desert
for a full day of racing at the Sportsman
Racing Association Beginner and Novice
Scrambles.
Many riders felt that the new,
'eigh t-mile course was one of the best
yet. It was almost half sandwash which,
began to "whoop-de-do" toward days
end but remained relatively dust free.
Almost every event will have at least
'One "Cherry-Picker" show up to try for
an easy trophy. This Sunday he surfaced
in the 250 Beginner race. A District 37
mo toerosser signed up as having ridden
less than three races then proceeded to
blow everyone into the weeds on the

and followed him for a lap to see just
h ow fast he was going. This, plus his
District rttord of 45 transfer points, led
to his disqualification.
The younger let got it on next in the
0-125 Beginners under 16 race. Some of
the youngsten show such style and class
that many older riders are glad they are
in a separate class.
A number of desert riden who came
out to SRA races for the fllSt time
commented on how smoothly the
organization operated with no sign up
lines and every race starting exactly on
the minute. This was the last SRA race
in the Adelanto area for a while as they
move up to California City on May 9 to
begin their Cyclone Series in which a
new Suzuki 400 MX will be given to the
high point Novice with a smaller Suzuki
going to some lucky Beginner.
