plates in District 36.
The 500 Amateur Main was one of
the wildest of the day with Richard
Porter finally taking the brass. Larry
Dunnagan was in tight competition until
the last lap when the ground came up to
meet him hard. Bruises were all he had
to show for his efforts.
Again, Huff trophied taking first this
time as eil McDannaid and Bill Budde
were on h is fender waiting to take over
in case of a mistake that never came.
The next event will be held Feb. 7.

LA GRANGE, CAL., Jan. 24, 1971 - A
beautiful day found 198 riders
competing in 49 race events including a
Powder Puff and a Buddy Race (two
riders on one bike).
The crowd of 1000 spectators were
in for a lot of laughs as the riders were
unprepared with no rear footpegs, no
advance practice and a lot of bouncing
and flying around. Jeff and Ted
Davidson won this event as Jeff rode like
he was alone and Ted, not so sure of
himself, hung on for dear life. He did
recover in time at the checkered to wave
goodbye to the other riders.
Jennifer Perry, riding her first race,
held off District 36 Number One
woman rider Debbie Jackline for three
laps before going wide enough for
Debbie to slip under for first. We're
expecting big things from this young
lady.
Rod Halstead led David Nelson III a
hotly contested battle until 50 feet-

from the finish line when David
powered by to take first in the 100
Novice Main.
As usual, the 125 Novice class was
one of the largest of the day. The third
lap was one of the most exciting as
three riders went down on the jump
causing the others to scatter in all
directions. Steve Sands and Henry Leslie
took turns leading this event until the
checkered settled the matter with Steve
taking first. Dale Mathers again led the
175 Novices all the way but Dana Perri
made sure he was close enough to take
over in case of a mistake.
Hank Ackerman moved right into
first place on his new Import Cycle
Montesa running away from the field in
the 250 Novice class. The really hot
races were for the next three spots as
Mike Cochran, Garry Trammel and Roy
Carter really fought it out finally
finishing in this order. Roy Winters on
his Montesaand Duane Bowling blazed a
trail around the track for the others to
follow as they finished well ahead of the
pack.

platers one and two respectively.
