San Diego Fires Threalen eMeMolocross
By Rich Hoffman
CARLSBAD, CALIF., Sept. 27, 1970Some of the hottest racing around was
hosted by the CM.C. at Carlsbad
Sundy. In fact it got SO hot that during
the 3rd moto of 125cc riders, the
attending ambulance went through the
pits, the attendants advising everyone to
evacuate the area due to a large lire that
had made a cbange of direction and was
now beaded in the direction of the
raceway. Some people left, some stayed.
I left!
Although the racing and r:ace track
were both very good, there were several
problems riders and spectators had to
contend with during the day. First the
fires. The previously mentioned was the
second of the day. Then there was the
wind that reportedly had gusts as high
as 80 M.P.H. Last, but not least, were
the dust and heat that made the day far
from comfortable for anyone.
With all of nature working against
them, credit should certainly be given to
the CMC ofltcia1s who put together an
exceUent race.
Included in the day's racing were Jim
Wilson and Tom Rapp doing battle in
the 250cc Expert class. An equally
exciting race was the 500cc Senior
division between Jim Wilson (on a C-Z)
and P. DeBendetti (Maico).
Something new for CM.C. was the
rubber band start and according to one
ofltcial at the rider's meeting, this will
be the new starting method at all C.M.C.
events.
