(.05) 'U·2312 The Intermission show was a real grandstand event as the mlnl-blke match race pitted little Jeff Ward against Guy Erickson who 18 about a foot taller than Jeff. As they made the run for the fln1sb line, everyone was on theIr feet and ye1l1ng as Jeff took the win by a wheel length. The feature match race this week pitted Greg Haserot against Larry Shaw, which proved to be a pretty close matcn. Twice Shaw tried to drive under Greg but went too bard and drUted wide so he lost ground that be was unable to make uP again as Haserot came across for the checkered flag and the win. It was a pretty rough nlgbt for the 'two - sponsored racing teams, the Great Bear Raclng Team and the Valvoline sponsored USA racing team. In the scratch semi, Bli Cody and Mike Konle of the USA racing team were pitted against each other. Of! the line, Cody took the lead with teammate Mike Kanle In second. Mike Konle was charging bard, and as they blasted Into the second corner, Kanle went In bard on the inside of Cody and as he came out, he couldn't hold it on the Inside and he bashed against Cody and pushed Bli uP against the wall, (this 18 teamwork?) Cody was able to stralgbten it uP and put the pressure on DeIll11s Gutldebaus who was running In second and took that position to make the MaIn Event. The Great Bear racing bad thetr share of troubles. Larry Helnselman, bad to throw bis macblne down In the scratch semi to avoid bitting Jimmy Raymond who bad fallen down in the corner. This was bad enough, but In the Scratch Consolation, bis teammate, Sonny Nutter bad his engine suddenly quit coming out of the comer and as he raised his band to warn the riders beb1nd him, Larry Helnselman was coming out full cbatand before he could swerve or shut off, he slammed into Sonny and they both went (this down with Larry striJdDg the 18 teamwork?). In the Division Two main event, it was Larry Lee and B1llY Leef1Chtlngfor flrst place andpayingso mucbattentton to each other, Robert Bruce was able to slip under both of them to take over the lead . and hold it to the checkered flag for the win. Larry copped second with BUly third, fourth spot WlIJ1t to Tommy Bannon. The Handicap main event was noticably lacking In top riders as the riders with lower hand1caps are becoming more Ellterprl... 205 II. H.rtIor Blvd., santa AU, C.IIf.
