SUNNY V·ALLEY TT . Eagles By Virginia Copeland Series At Mid Point GRANTS PASS, ORE. May 3,1970- The sky was blue, the weather warm and the track in perfect condition, for the opening race at Sunny Valley Speedway. 122 riders were on hand to tryout the new oiled, 1/2 mile T.T. scrambles track, and anyone who has ever been to Sunny Valley Speedway will understand the thrill It gave the spectators and riders to s ee the dust free track. The program started at 1:00 p.m , with Boy Scout Troop #81 of Grants Pass presenting the flag before the Une- up of riders. ,.~. By Loreta Davidson [, LA GRANGE, CALIF. May 17, 1970- It was another beautiful day as the West Side Eagles M, C. held the second in a series of four scrambles. The next two will be held May 31 and June 14. There was a lot of action with few accidents. In the 100 Novice class, Charles Goodr ich, Modesto (Moto-Beta) led t1ie field all the way, but fell and missed the jump so he was penalized two positions, leaving It open for Ted Davidson, Hughson (Brldgestone) to go for a well earned first place. The 100 Amateur-Expert was a wheel to wheel battle between Kim Jorgenson, Stockton (Kawasaki) and Nell McDannald, Keyes (Moto- Beta) finishing in that order, with Expert Dennis Robinson, Modesto (Hodaka) pushing hard. The 125 Novice class was won by Larry Dunnigan, Modesto (Yamaha). Second place changed hands several times, with Doug Nelson (Bultaco) taking It. Once the field scattered, Jim Martin, riding a Kawasaki made the ride look easy and led the 175 Novice class to a first place win. In the 125-175-200 ,Amateur Main, Larry Ringler, Modesto rode his 125 Yamaha to an exciting Win. Joel Krick riding his first 250 race won a first place ,trophy riding an Ossa, while Jeff Davidson, who had mechanical problems took a third. The 250 Expert win was made to look easy by Dennis Hugh, Modesto on a , Yamaha, with second going to Del Silva on an American Eagle. It would appear that Ray Huff did an excellent job of teaching his son how to race. The 500 Novice was won by brothers • Larry and Jimmie Dunnigan, both from Modesto and both riding B.S.A.'s. The 650 Novice was a wheel to wheel battle all the way, with James Hayhurst HoUster finally taking first place with Tony Arnaz, taking second. It was Ray Huff, on a Yamaha, taking home the brass In the 500 Open Expert with "Jorgy" Jorgenson on a BSA coming in for second. The big winner of the day turned out to be The Rogue River Kid, Mike Branam, sponsored by Yamaha Sports Center, when he ended UP with four trophies. But they weren't all easy wins for Mike.
