125's SHINE ,A T SADDLEBAC,K I By Fred & Josie Bond 125cc riders go at it as ACA hosts motocross series. SADDLEBACK PARK .: It seems as If the most appealing class at any motocross are the 250' s, The ACA race at Saddleback last Sunday was a pleasant exception to the rule - the 125' s stole the show. The track layout seemed to agree with the 125 pUots - dusty and bumpy. Althougb Don Emler and his Zundapp won all three motos, be didn't do it without a battle. He was conststently pushed by other riders in the opening laps - but be would eventually pull out a good lead and win handily. First place wasn't the only battle in the 125 class, the Juniors had their own thing going. Johnny Garcia, Mark Rick, and Gary Thatcher engaged in not only a race-long dice, but a day-long freefor-all. These three gentlemen and their Bultaco's unquestionably put on the best show of the day, and in doing so placed 1-2-3 in the Sportsman division. The award for sheer class must go to Mike Runyard, Mike rode both the 250 and the 500 classes and blew them all into the weeds every time out. Runyard puts on a good show when there Is a lot of dayligbt between him and second place, but when the racing gets close you wUl have to look hard to find a more aggressive and sure-handed rider. The 100 class was well represented. Fifteen riders started and eleven placed in the results, with bonors going to Terry Smith and his Sachs. The tiddlers are really aston1sh1ng. The riders manage to flag them arouod in a most satisfactory ~er. . The most impressive thing about the ACA Saddleback series - Is the allaround sportsmanship of everybody concerned. The guys race to win, but they also race to have a good time. Good organization, good weather, good track, and good people made for the best of competition.
