Chal De 'C ecco Takes Eastside MC_Scrambles ~ By Bill Spencer UVAS MEADOWS, Gilroy, Ca.- Chal De Cecco made a rare appearance at the opening Eastside M. C . Scrambles and went home wi th the big trophy. He led of! the 10 lap Main and went on to w1n by a country mlle over Bob Scally who had a hard time passtng through the pack and couldn't catch up to Chal 's new m ount . Ben Moser figured to be i n the th1ck of th1ngs but disappeared on lap 4 whlle 10 f ifth spot. Hi s sportster won h1s heat 10 grand style with Scally charging hard, again, in second. I Nor m Seidel won yet another 650cc Amateur Main and beat Mario R1naldi who always seems to be right up 10 the f1ntsh. Mike Sarandria led the 650cc NoVice Main for two laps but let Larry Netf get underneath him and in recover1rig, got himself into wing-ding but managed to save a third. Bruce Teixeira did battle with Jim Foley and beat the District 36 champion by half a bike length in one of the fastest mains. Foley never got more than 20 ft. beh10d but he had handling problems com1ng up the fast sweep10g hill. Barry Webb appeared to have a third 10 the bag when John Hlebo got under him and knocked him into the safety ttres, Wade Ulrich rode his Honda to the checker 10 the new 175cc class and held off Bill Van Der Laan when his motor seemed to die on the last lap. Ron Jeidig missed a shift on lap 3 of the 200 A mateur Main and Bob Cobb and Neil Koch didn't let the opportunity get by the m . Both 250cc Amateur riders have great futures ahead of them and If the public keeps coming back like the turn out that was experienced today, then the future of motorcycle racing is really looking UP. Th1s was the opening event f or the Eastside M. C . and the crowd of 3,000 got thetr monies worth as the racing was excellent with a great track.
